Engine Noise.... Service bulletin

I have an 2011 X3 2.8.

We've had a "tapping" noise pretty much ever since it was new. Brought it in about 1 month after we had it, they said they could'nt find the noise. Brought it in again a week ago stating the noise was there and we wanted them to look at it again. They still said no noise so they had me drive it with the service manager. I pointed out the noise to him, very faint and could only be heard from under the car. He said there was a service bulletin for 2 clips that went around the transmission housing.

Brought it back in on Saturday and they installed the clips, took about 30 minutes. Apparently, BMW left these 2 clips out to save some money. I assume they are only installing them if a customer brings it in for a noise issue, the noise might not happen to everyone, just wanted to let you guys know.

I'll post a reply back if the noise reappears.

Alex

Acove,

Would you happen to have the TSB #? It should be on your invoice somewhere? I have this noise coming from under my 28i as well and was planning on dropping by the dealership for a look-see. The TSB # would be REALLY helpful.

Thanks
Dave

There was a post a while ago about noise dampeners that came with the X3 3.5, but not the 2.8. Think the post had a title that included something about a "rattling sound".

This sounds like the same thing. If anyone can get the TSB number, it would be greatly appreciated.

My appointment is this Thursday. I was in last Thursday, they heard the noise and ordered the parts.

I'll post the TSB # (if it appears on the statement) as well as the part names & numbers.

I too occasionally experience a tapping noise/vibration and it comes from the accelerator pedal pulsating.

Is this the tapping noise you guys have been experiencing?

Don't notice any pedal pulsing, but I have an intermittent noticeable rattling from under the car

Ok, just back from the dealership with the fix. Sorry, no TSB # listed anywhere on the invoice, but here's the description of the issue, the fix & the part #'s:

Complaint: Report on rattle underneath vehicle

Correction: Noise from transmission. No cover plugs by front of transmission. Removed transmission under cover and installed transmission plugs.

Part #'s:

1 x 24-14-7-603-258 (description is listed as "cap")
1 x 24-14-7-567-139 (description is listed as "cap")

It took roughly 40 minutes to perform the work, all warranty obviously. Noise from under my car is gone now, in fact it's DEAD QUIET! Happy customer!

Part numbers are not from what they did. Those are wheel caps part numbers. I'm experiencing something similar.
