Question regarding turning the car off

Whenever I turn off the car, I have to push the start/stop button twice to fully turn the car off. The first time stops the engine and the second time turns off the "accessories"(radio/nav etc..) Is there a way to change this? I want everything to turn off at the same time. Any ideas on how to do this?

Even if you only press the off button once (turing off the engine), when you exit the car and press the BMW emblem grommet on your key, the electricity will then also turn off.

Doesn't happen to me. Maybe your hitting the windshield wiper switch by mistake or it is on automatic?... Only thing I could think of that could be "normal"

I also notice that occasionally the windshield wipers move (or at least I don't notice it everytime). My best guess is it is to change them from a more aerodynamic ride position to a accessible position for changing them and cleaning the windows.

Nope, mine never move. Don't think that's normal.

Mine do slightly move sometimes when turning the car off.

I don't know the reason or if it is just a "home postion" routine but the movement is very slight so I'm not worried.

I'm curious, if the start stop button is depressed one and you exit the vehicle with the key FOB and get some distance from the vehicle will that also shut off the electricity?

If it is just a homing routine (which I think is the case) it can’t really be considered a glitch or problem.

If you don't lock the car, the power will stay on for between 5 and 15 minutes, but will eventually shut off. The accessory 12V. outlets are also turned off (at least the one in the front - haven't actually tested the one in the cargo area).

If you have the fan on high and the radio on, the power drain is substantial.

Mine do the same - maybe once every 10 times the car is shut off. Seems to be the software initializing the wiper park position, or maybe the software is checking that someone has not stolen your wiper blades.
You'll get used to it after a while.

Nope, doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
Now if they jumped up and did an Irish jig, I’d be a little concerned.

Try holding the button for more than 1 second. That shuts everything down. Just a longer press.

Do you have a X3 that does this?

On my car, you can hold the button down for 10 seconds, and the accessories circuit still stays on. This seems to be the way the owner's manual (pp. 59) says it should work. There is no mention of a full shut down by "holding the button for more than 1 second".

It always takes a second press or operation of the key remote lock button.

The X3 is very different from the 3-Series sedans in many ways.

Actually I think that's a European car thing. My VW also did it. Supposedly it was to ensure that the wipers did not stay in one position to ensure longer wiper life. IE the rubber part did not always see the same positon when the wipers were off.

YMMV,
Paul

To get them to "jump up" try holding the wiper stalk up beyond the detent for (3) seconds. Sorry, no "Irish Jig" position.

If you have to hold the button for more than one second, surely it becomes quicker and easier to press it twice?

Save time and press once and then locking the car acts as the 2nd press *

* only works if you lock the car

Nope. You have to either push the button or lock it with the key fob.

It will shut off the power after eight minutes, but won't lock the doors.

Happens to me occasionally. Doesn't seem to effect anything so I ignore it...
