Where is the Sim card for the car located?
Is there a way to retro fit this option, I would rather use a Sim in the car rather than teathering to my phone.

Wouldn't be surprised if their SIM was using GPRS and not 3G
I've used BMW Online (not full internet but using the same data SIM) for quite a while in various places and I don't think it's 3G. Way too slow to navigate to be 3G

I spoke to the dealer about this on my test drive, and he told me that it is GPRS. What madness, assume a major job to upgrade to 3G and eventually then again to 4G.

Thats really poor.. and no doubt the modem only handles GPRS, or its part of the deal they have with mobile operators for the cost. £70 for 3 years internet is actually very good.. (had it been 3G) as its GPRS its kinda useless.

I did get an update from BMW UK today telling me about new applications that have been added to BMW Online Applications that you can add yourself from the portal in the car

I'm completely underwhelmed after reading all that. How about petrol prices or speed camera locations? Something, you know, useful

The Internet option actually uses EDGE where available or GPRS.. still pretty poor when 3G is about to get retired for 4G

Pointless option.. better to just link to your phone and use its 3G connection where available

As with many of these options it has the potential to be so much more but sadly falls very short. The main thing for me isn't the speed, it's the fact it's just a full browser. It needs to be a special browser designed to work with the iDrive controls to be of any use. That's why good websites spend money on having mobile pages designed to work with mobile phones
