Liftmaster 8355 garage door opener compatibility with homelink

I have a 2012 X3 and about to purchase a Liftmaster 8355 garage door opener. It is compatible with Homelink V4.3 or later but there is now way to tell what version is in my X3. If it doesn't work then i would need to buy an adapter between the Homelink and the garage door opener. The only way to find out is try it to see if I can program it into the X3. Does anyone have a Liftmaster 8355 or 8550 and a 2012 or 2011 X3 with Homelink that can say it works or not?

I have a 2013 X3 and a Liftmaster 8550W garage door opener and didn't need any additional equipment to make it work. I know that is not exactly the same as you are asking about but thought it might help in some way.

I assume you tried to program and it didn't work, right?

If that is the case my understanding is the only solution is a "repeater". Liftmaster will send the module free (you just pay shipping). The module plugs into the wall and sends a signal to the opener. Contact liftmaster and they will advise

When I talked to Liftmaster today they said that the Homelink in 2013's should be good and that Homelink was updated around 2011/2012. So if BMW purchased a lot of mirrors equipped with the version before that went into the 2012 X3 that I have then I would need a repeater. I don't have the door opener yet Liftmaster said it would cost me $25 plus shipping. They didn't mention it was free.

I guess Liftmaster changed their policy as I told them my issue (that it didn't work with my BMW) and they said I needed a repeater and as a courtesy they shipped me one and I just paid about $8 to cover S/H.

You might be able to find it cheaper on Amazon or eBay as there is nothing magic about getting it through them. Push a little more with their customer service and see what they say though.
