BMW iPhone Connect Problem

I just brought home my '14 X3 and I am not sure how to do the following:
Play songs off my iphone in my car through a connected wire.
Use any BMW connected apps (ie. pandora)

I have an iphone 5 running ios 7. I bought the Y cable although I am not sure why I needed it.

I am only able to play music through bluetooth. It should play it through USB.

You dont need a Y cable. Your regular iphone usb cable should be used.

Did you buy option 6NS "enhanced usb and bluetooth plus smartphone integration"? That is what makes music over usb.

Did you buy either ZTP (tech package) or 6NR (Apps)? This is needed for connected apps.

The idrive will only allow music over Bluetooth or the phone plugged in. For me , when I plug in my iPhone cord into the USB port, it tells me it is deactivating Bluetooth . You can go to your phone configuration , if I remember correctly, CD button , choose external device, then click on iPhone and hit the control to the right. It should show your iPhone . Once you select that iPhone you should have two options "audio thru Bluetooth" and "phone thru Bluetooth " . Uncheck the audio. Now plug your cord in. You should see all your songs now on screen.
