WHAT SHOULD BE THE FINAL UPDATE!!!

1. BMW Australia are really on to it now and have found a tie rod end in their NSW warehouse. They checked it and it's the correct part so that's mine and comes in tomorrow.

2. Steering rack arrives next week and is expected to be the correct part as the initial mistake was an error in part recognition by BMW. The rack coming is definitely the VSS rack.

3 And what could be third? Oh that's easy! Last night, in Camberwell, in our RED Commodore hire car (no.3) whilst stationary at the lights, the young blonde girl behind us thought the lights turned green and drove in to the back of us..........that makes FOUR! Fortunately for her pocket and my sanity there was minimal damage to her car and you couldn't really see where she hit us so I'm not going to tell the hire company and let it roll. I don't want to go through the whole process for the fourth time!

And for the record, I don't usually have accidents...........this is just a really bad spell..........

I believe the reason is because Melbourne now has too many people for its infrastructure and we have insane beaurocrats who are against cars and want that wonderful socialist nirvana of public transport to be the predominant transport function in Melbourne. So we are squeezed in to roads which are being shrunk by bike paths and bus lanes so it's just bound to cause massive road rage and many more accidents. Just like man-made global warming.........don't you just love socialism? Just let me be alone with my car so I can enjoy it without all the social engineering to make driving cars unbearable. Hmmm...now that's a rant isn't it!

Well it's like that all over Europe as well. They're making it difficult and expensive to drive cars within the city limits hoping to get the drivers over in busses and trams. But they fail to deliver a reliable/good system, causing the public transports to be overcrowded and late. This means, at least in my city, that there are more cars on the roads now than it was before the fantastic new public transport system was introduced.

I was hoping for everyone else to take public transport to work so I could get the roads for myself, but I was wrong...

That's really bad luck for Steve and Drunkin. I'm getting super paranoid now as I also live in Melbourne (and I haven't even got delivery of the car yet).

Well I finally get my X3 back tomorrow morning! It's been over 2 months since the accident and it got quite ominous 2 weeks ago when BMW said they would replace but NOT re-fit the incorrectly supplied steering rack but another phone call to BMW and a few well placed threats got the ball rolling and BMW fit the new rack and tie rod so the repairer has done the final buff and clean and I can pick it up tomorrow. I cannot wait for it. It has only done 878 km since we received it in mid October so I'm off for a few days tomorrow to get some miles on it.

A WORD OF WARNING FOR ANYONE WITH AN M SPORT X3:

I asked Graeme at Mr Gloss to have a look at the shiny black trim around the door frames (high gloss shadow line) as it had a shiny blue look which is like when you put a blow torch to stainless steel exhausts. He asked me if I had gone through a car wash and I had once. It was a non-touch car wash and apparently the soap in them is so strong it ruins the shiny black trim on the M Sports doors. he has seen it on X3's and X5's with that trim and it is very hard to fix. He has T Cut it and that has helped but I'll see tomorrow how it came out. I will do a separate post on the board to inform everyone.

Merry Christmas!
I empathize. My first E90 (2005) was rear ended when it was less than a week old. I was still driving on the complimentary tank of gas... took about a month to get it fixed, and I was always able to "tell" it had been repaired. I had the same feeling, the deflation of the great new car experience. I found the best way to get that feeling back was to spend some real quality time with it - detailing, driving on nice twisties, etc. You can get the feeling back. Best of luck with a perfect repair and quick turnaround, once they get the parts fiasco sorted.
