Rear Brake work...

Has anyone used the BimmerLink/BimmerCode app's 'Brake Service Mode' to retract the caliper pistons for replacing pads? I think the last time I did rear pads I removed the parking brake electronic motor from calipers and manually wound to retract. Just interested to know if the service mode thing works well.

It works fine, but there are multiple posts saying that it gives a message that it didn't work. Some sort of software glitch. That happened to me, too. But you know it worked because you can hear it.

I've used it and it worked just fine. No error messages or anomalies.

When doing brakes I always loosen the bleeder screws then push the piston back. This gets all the nasty fluid out and don’t take a chance in rolling a seal or something in the ABS unit. Then just gravity bleed the brakes to get new fluid through. Just my $.02

Worked great, but did get the error message. Nice not having to remove the caliper motors 👍

Did my rear breaks a few days ago. It worked but got the error message. On a separate note I noticed the rear inner and outer pads are different.

Nice being able to do your own work and not be held hostage to outrageous pricing.

Well yes, but at age 73 I’m losing interest in getting dirty and working at ground level, ugh!

Looked at my used pads.....does seem there is bit of difference in thickness comparing inner to outer pad, not huge but clearly noticeable.

Thickness should be the same but you can see below the shape and other dimensions. The backing plate on the outer pad has 2 metal raised dots that would not interface nicely with the piston. My pagid pads came with a note explaining the fitment.
