Coding options

I have managed to work out how to get into coding the F25.

The main one for me was losing the iDrive "Only use when it's safe!!!!" disclaimer. Glad that's gone. Haven't done much else though. It was a pain to organise - had to make a cable, stuff around for a day getting software organised, and then trying things to see what works.

************** and bmwcoders.com were the main sources of info.

Hmmm apparently not allowed to post that site name up here!

The site where I posted up the info decided that the info is already there and deleted it LOL. It's not... but hey, their loss. They have info for F10, F11, but not F25.

Some forum mods are morons... (not here though!).

Hi Swallowtail,

I'm interested in getting rid of the annoying iDrive disclaimer too. Would you be able to PM/email me the details of how you managed this?

Thanks,

Khai

It seems there is some genuine interest.

Why not provide the details in this thread?

The reason I have not put details up is that it is a long and very complex process involving making a cable up (getting plugs and resistors from internet, wiring plan, soldering connections); getting software from the internet that is over 10Gb downloads and is only available through some interesting sources; getting it all working on a laptop, and then working through a complex process to track down the specific section needed to change code.

BMW have changed coding with the F series cars, and a "key" with a PIN code is needed to activate the software (ESys) used to access and change codes.

All of the information is available on websites and forums that deal with coding for this brand of car, all I have done is successfully pull it all together for my F25.

I have no intention of creating a "howto" post that may only draw unwanted attention, and attract the sorts of idiots that frequent a lot of the coding websites. My intent for posting this thread was to say "hey, it can be done" and to point people in the right direction of where to start looking. I am happy to PM information, and will do so to those who have asked how to do it (as I already have to some).

PLEASE NOTE - I am not calling anyone here idiots, this forum is a great place to be. Nor am I trying to be deliberately obtuse or difficult. Unfortunately (unlike my previous VW, where you could just buy software with a cable to do what you needed) in the BMW world there is this almost underground movement about coding, and information about how to do it is used by individuals to make $. I have no intent of getting involved in that, but will assist individuals if they need some pointers.

Great work swallowtail, I started poking around on bmwcoders.com and had a difficult time making sense of anything on that site. I tried to download the software and got to a download page in some foreign language and couldn't even figure out how to download the software package. Plus there are multiple types of hardware/software combinations and only a few can be used with the F25.

To code the vehicle you need: ENET cable (OBD to RJ45), ESYS software ver. 3.20 + EST KEY (that makes it possible to code) 50mb, up to date ISTA/P program data (weights about 20gb). But this software could not be found for free download...

BMW does not sell all this stuff (for the reasonable price).
As far as I know, on the Internet you can buy it for about 200 usd.
Cable can be hand made.
