Add me to the list of chain failures.

I went to a new shop to have my oil changed and they found that my timing chain was stretched so far it was a miracle it did not skip a tooth or break. I told them to fix it. Pretty expensive. It had been to the dealer for the past oil changes but they did not catch it. I purchased an extended warranty when I bought the car. They covered most of the repair. I was just happy I wasn't left stranded somewhere but was disappointed my car was one of the bad ones. I hope that was the worst thing that will happen. BTW my 2014 has 73,880 miles on it.

So it was chain stretch vs. the broken guides? That seems to be a slightly different issue than the failure that has plagued almost exclusively 2013s.

My x3 2013 went through guards trail issue and the whole engine has to be replaced . Very expensive . Even though it's a known manufacturing defect, I had to pay around c$4800

I can share more info and experience on this. In the meantime, if there is any lawsuit going on , please let me know. I am the strongest candidate for it.

I just had my turbo go when driving. Faulkner BMW found a warranty but will not cover the timing chain, $4400, we are going to have a very long hard talk. Is the timing chain covered in the class action law suit?
