A few people looking for this, myself included. Saying that, my desire to have this feature has waned somewhat as I find Sport a bit too jerky/aggressive for regular driving. I enable it most of the time as soon as I hit the motorway.

Any one else find a fix for this. I just recently figured out my car always resets to comfort mode no matter what mode i turn the car off in. How stupid!

I agree with BMW for not making it so that it remembers the last used setting.
It would be better if we could set what we want to be the default setting in Idrive.

Agreed. This is something that should be set based on the driver's profile and remembered like the seat position.

I would worry about the sport mode ( engine ) during cold start ups. That's like abusing the engine while the oil is still cold. Also I read somewhere in the manual not to go over 3k rpm while the oil is still cold.

If that was the case, then surely BMW would have disabled the Sport function while the engine is still cold.

Slightly OT: I assume it's normal for maximum gear to be "7" in Sport Mode? If I use the paddle to shift to 8, it just drops back down to 7 after one or seconds. Not sure why BMW would do that but I Googled and also saw a comment on Edmunds.com. I guess if you want economy on the highway, you just switch to Comfort mode.

Just slip the transmission into sport mod then use the paddles to select and keep 8th gear (in any drive mod)

Do you mean using the driver experience button (comfort, sport sport+) or the DS, moving stick to left? I was using the button and it would not stay in 8th.

Yep, move the gear selector to the left into DS and the car will hold any gear selected, be it by the paddles or by moving the shifter fore/aft.

I still think it's strange that it won't hold when going to Sport (or +) Mode with the button. Of course, there's no mention in the Owner's Manual.

... but it does. If you select sport mode, then select DS you can drive on the freeway in sport mode in eighth gear. If you drive in D the car will default to 7th gear in sport mode.

The benefit to the sport mode in DS is that you can have the firmer ride (with dynamic dampers) and tighter steering at higher speeds.

I am responding to this old thread because I just made a connection as to one reason my BMW is set to default to comfort mode upon start-up rather than the last setting. It has to do with how the EPA tests fuel economy in cars with multiple driving modes. If the car defaults to a specific mode, fuel economy in tests is based on this mode. If there is no default, the fuel economy may represent an average of different modes. My speculation is that BMW wanted the EPA fuel economy test to reflect that achieved in the comfort mode setting. I am happy the default is not the Eco setting.

Too bad noone has yet replied whether it's possible to code the car to remember this setting or not. I'll post it up in the main coding thread:

Apparently it's not possible.
