Memory Problems

For the last year and a half my 2011 X3 35i has had memory problems. This is not a major issue just an annoying one. What happens is when the vehicle is turned off for any period of time the Navigation Screen and the Audio (I-Pod or USB) return to the Home screen. This is an intermittent problem Some days it will do it every time the X3 is started then it might go for a day or two with out a problem.
The dealer says that you must lock the vehicle every time you park it to stop the problem. From my testing it does not matter if the vehicle is locked or not. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how was it fixed?

The lack of answers to my question is telling me that I have a real problem and the dealer is just blowing me off with excuses. This is kind of what I thought. Thanks

I'm not sure I understand what's happening. What do you mean by returning to the home screen? And what do you mean by "any length of time"? Does that include a few seconds to a couple of days? Or what?

This is the home screen

As far as the time anywhere from the time it takes to buy a cup of coffee or fill up a tank of gas to 48 hours or more. My working vehicle is a BMW K1600 GTL Motor Unit.

Mine does this, too. My E90 did the same thing. Sometimes it 'remembers' the last screen you were on, sometimes it starts up with the home screen displayed. I've yet to find the sequence that causes this, but it really isn't a big deal to me, either.

Thanks at least I know that mine is not the only one doing this. Other than this it is the best vehicle that I have owned.

Yes, mine does the same. Mostly goes back to where it was, sometimes the home screen. Also have not figured out what makes the difference.

Thanks everyone. My previous vehicle was a rolling marshmallow otherwise known as a Lexus. So I was used to everything electronic working perfectly.
Items that seem to help somewhat are making sure that the doors are locked (helps most of the time). When it goes to the home screen put go to the Navigation screen first than go to your music setting.

when your car goes back to the home screen, does it also change the radio station? I have this issue, where if I was listening to the radio when the car is turned off, the next time I start it the radio is on 87.7 (not the station I was listening to).

Mine pulls up the last screen used which is usually a split screen of Nav and entertainment. Can't recall it ever going back to the menu screen.

Mine occasionally doesn't come on at all. Often it comes on, but to the reset 'BMW' screen. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong, but I am waiting for it to fail in a more consistent way before going back to the dealer.

I have been watching and recording what is happening. So far the common item is when the X3 is in reverse everything works properly. If I pull straight out of a space then the screen is messed up.
BMW told the dealer that the vehicle had to be locked to save the information, this is false.
I believe that some of the problem may have to do with timing. When you back out of a space the rear camera is on and it takes longer to display your information so the information comes up correctly.
This does not solve the changing of stations while driving or some of the other communication problems.
After more investigation it is defiantly a timing problem. It has nothing to do with reverse except when you put the vehicle in reverse as soon as you start the X3 the rear camera comes on, this gives the computer more time to organize its information.
