Be very careful of how the AT responds. There have been a huge amount of cases reported. The later years seem to have less problems.
The condition is that it stutters between 2-3 up and 3-2 down when making a rolling stop and accelerating. Can be annoying at some times and dangerous at others when trying to enter a traffic circle or heavy fast moving traffic. Don't let any BMW dealer tell you they have never heard of it. It is well known and documented. If they tell you otherwise..walk away they are lying. Ask to see the service history and if it has had a firmware flash recently. |

I'm actually interested in getting an x3 between the years of 2008 and 2011 as well.
What is "AT"? And, what years did that issue affect the x3? Any other information would be great. Still considering the second gen, any comments between first/second gen? |

AT means automatic transmission, MT means....right!
I am driving a 2007 without any problems but if i would get the oppertunity to buy a 2011 i would... Take the comment of EVLENGR serious, he's an experienced bimmerfan.... good luck!! John |

Thanks for the info. I will probably get a 2009, keep it for 3 years and then get an '11. I have a couple BMW bikes but this will be the first with 4 wheels. Just can't see buying them new.
