Slight whirring sound like a pump running after start up.

So I have had my x3 for over a year now and the last couple times I started it I notice a noise I have never heard before. A faint whirring sound that gets louder yet still quite faint as the rpm's go up. It goes on for the 1st couple minutes or so then goes away. Any advice on what this could be?
