Question Dinan Chips

Up until now there was no real cost effective way to increase power in the X3 without spending a lot of money.

The 2007-2011 N52 could not be tweaked for more power, and I asked Steve Dinan why not. he said plainly, it's not cost effective for us to R & D.

However, the new X3 uses the N55 powerplant which the 355 also uses. There are plenty of mods that can be done to the 355 including chipping.

Since the release of the M Class X3 seems to be off on the horizon, has anyone installed or thought of chipping their N55?

Seems a great way to get a lot of power and torque for little money in comparison to a regular M class. All the utility of an SUV with the power of a weekend track racer.

Yes. I'm planning on doing it when I get mine in about 1 week. The Dinan N55 tune is weak compared to my N54 tune. There's a local company that will do it for about half the price of the Dinan.

Did they release a tune for the X3? It isn't listed on their website...

Not yet but it should be the same as the F10 535.

It'll never be an M but more power wouldn't be a terrible thing. OP, I think you meant 335i (or any 35i). The N54 was more tunable than the N55 but JB N55 Stage 1 (at least) is available. Haven't seen if members discussed any results on the X3 forum. I'd be interested to know if anyone's tried it.

I am also interested in the Dinan tune. Just waiting to see the specs when the release it. I know it costs a bit more than some of the tunes out there, but there is some value in the warranty.

I wonder if Cobb will come out with a flash for the X3. I like Dinan, would be intrigued by Cobb, but really have no interest in going into my ECU ala the JB option (even if it is much cheaper).

There's a local tuning company (http://www.ecuprogram.com/) that I'm talking to and they offer stage 1 & 2 for the X3 with N55.

Stage 1 yields 55hp and 80 ft-lb (similar to Dinan Stage 2)
Stage 2 yields 70hp and 110 ft-lb (must have oil cooler)

The price is a bit better than Dinan.

Yup, you're right. You can definitely get a tune cheaper than Dinan, but does that cheaper tune match BMW's 4 year 50,000 mile warranty like the Dinan tune?
