BMW Drive for Team USA Event

I received an email yesterday about this latest test drive event. Although it features their sedans, the X3 is an option also. The email states a "sales incentive" but it doesn't say what that is.

Well I received my confirmation this morning and the incentive sounds a bit better than what was provided from the X3 Challenge event.

Here's the text from the confirmation email, hopefully "Drive Off" means an additional $1000 off the negotiated price:

"This is an event you will not want to miss. Only registered attendees will receive the limited-time $1,000 BMW “Drive Off” allowance, good towards the purchase or lease of a new 2011 or 2012 BMW model.* And once you have completed your experience, BMW will also recognize your drive with a $10 donation to Team USA."

Here's the link to sign up:

I see Jason posted this in the general forum. It has the official announcement information.

Any idea if the "Drive Off" allowance is only valid at the location where you participated in the event or if it can be redeemed at any dealership?

I also signed up for this event, and the wording in the email does not state it has to be dealer stock, only delivered after particitpation in the event. Also, ED is excluded.

Been there - done that!

Went to one of the dealers I'm talking to and drove an X3 28 and a 535xi.

The X3 had 20" wheels and it felt like the castor and toe in were out of alignment. the primary ride was also not great. You hit a ridge or drain cover and you really notice it.

The 535xi was pretty impressive. It felt very well put together. Primary ride was good but it understeers - you really can't steer with the gas pedal at all. The engine is very smooth, but you don't really feel the power come in until you have at least 4000 rpm showing. That engine in the next generation 3 Series would be a pretty nice car if it's lighter than 4000 lbs.

On a similar note, I just ordered and my car will arrive after the date. Anyone have luck applying this after the fact? I will ask my dealer but am curious if anyone has tried this yet..

Our X3 finished production on Jun.22 and should be at dealer early next week.
Can only get a place at this new event in mid July which seems to indicate that I will also miss out on the $1,000 promotion (vehicle delivery occurring before attending the event).
Really do not want to hold off on taking delivery of our X3 until after the event, if that is even an option.
Anyone else in the same position?
Anyone got a voucher already and not planning on using it, assuming it can be transferred?
I hear ya.... unfortunately, events like this are designed to bring in non-relationship customers and drive sales of inventory. People who custom order and spend weeks or more pre-building and planning their order are not the targeted demographic here. They are looking for the folks out car shopping or driving by and see all the pretty balloons.

I was quite agitated about the X3 drive event, but had gotten over it.. until you just reminded me of it and re-opened that festering wound... now I have to back to therapy. Thanks.

Sent dealer an email, but haven't heard back. I got the registration email and in the details mine said car could not be delivered or ordered before the event occurred. I wonder if that is a change in language...

Dealer said they were fine with it as long as I register/attend and BMW north America approves. Waiting to hear back what that actually means + hopefully will have an answer before the event actually happens.

It is worth a shot to try and apply the event coupon to an already ordered vehicle...

I ordered my vehicle the first week of June and attended the Team USA Event last week. I talked to the dealership and they applied the $1K credit when I took delivery yesterday!

did you have to wait and receive an email with the discount, or did you just tell them you went to the event?

I attended the event yesterday, and the person said it would take ~1 week to receive the email with the discount to print out. I expect my car might be ready before then.

I received the email 3 business days after. Additionally, if you are planning on purchasing the car with that particular dealer that's hosting the event, they will honor it even before you receive the email. Officials from the Driving Event will send two copies, one to attendee, and one to the dealership. Got that info from my CA when i purchased my X3 3.5 2 weeks ago!!

On a side note, anyone know how long it takes from receiving the production number to actually receiving the car itself? im from NYC.

thanks. its been 3 business days and still nothing (test drove on tuesday). the one thing im a bit worried about is that while i checked in electronically on their ipads (well they checked me in), i filled out the survey on paper because their computers were having issues as I finished.

hopefully my dealer wont have a problem just giving me the discount even if i dont have the code.

heard from dealer. rejected by bmw usa since i placed the order before i did the event. i think the mistake was my dealer asked bmw usa (according to TOS its correct to reject) instead of just submitting it.

Not a huge deal though, got a good deal on the car so won't sweat it.

I was able to call BMW and get an update on how long it would be before I received the email. Try 866.905.4269...they were very helpful!
