Adverse weather performance

I have been impressed about how the X3 handles adverse weather. We have had 2 inches of rain in 6 hours with some heavy gusts of wind and lots of water over the roads. The X3 has been so much better driving in these conditions than my 95 4Runner or our 07 TL-S. This is yet another reason I'm glad I bought the X3!

I'll let ya know how the car handles when we get 6" of snow in 2 hours.

This year is suppose to be a good one (if ya like the white stuff).

Yep, I've loved driving the X3 in the rainy weather. Can't wait to get up to Stevens Pass and Crystal Mountain in the snow though.

Waiting for snow to weigh-in with an opinion...Hopefully, another month (maybe two?) before that will happen..

If this handles 1/2 as well as my X5d in snow, I'll be happy...But w/out snows instead of all season tires, I have my doubts

Am hoping the All Seasons will be "good enough"

I have the Pirelli All Seasons. I had all seasons on my x5d from the factory and lasted about a week in winter before I went snows.

Does it make that much of a difference? I ordered my X3 with all seasons but still on the fence about snow tires. I used to drive around with all seasons in winter and it seems alright.

Been there, done that.
Handles great. Although I do notice some slippage before dsc kicks in and it starts transferring power. I can see why people would say that xDrive feels more "reactive" than Q5 quattro, but I wouldn't give up rwd bias for fwd.

That said, with my Dunlop Wintersports, DSC almost never comes on... unless I mash the pedal on ice just to see it work.

Very personal choice and dependent on where you live too...I got used to snows on awd vehicles - the ultimate combination.

I can only assume the wind was blowing in a favourable direction for you as we've had some pretty gusty weather here today and my X3 was all over the M40!

Moving from an Acura MDX with Michelin all seasons to an X3 with all seasons- don't know what tires. The MDX was terrific in all snow conditions including taking it on many ski trips to some tall mountains. How has your X3 done with all seasons in the snow?

Thanks!

We are on the same boat,

I change from MDX to X3 as well, with winter tires on both cars, and got to see what can X3 do when in snow.

08 MDX with snow tires is terrific in snowy climite..

hope X3 will do the same.

went skiing last year in the stock all season tires. I was driving up while it was snowing. On the highway, I was passing every vehicle that was in the plowed lane while I was in the unplowed lane. There was no swerving or twitching. This is still a vehicle with weight and turning a street corner without slowing down produced under-steer. If you drive with due caution, the vehicle should perform well.

I feel like a kid... first snow this year.

It's only a couple of inches but I have to go out and grab a Tims.

So?

That was disappointing!

My old FWD Accord with Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi cornered, stopped and accelerated better than my AWD Pirelli Sottozero equipped X3.

It felt like I was driving with all-season tires.

Ha, ha - not surprised at all..Exactly how I felt with All Seasons on my X5d.

Put some of those Nokians on the X3 and then report back....Tires make all the difference in the world as I'm sure you know..

I suspect the Pirelli All Season Tires will be fine on cold, cleared streets and barely palatable when there is any significant amount of snow on the ground..

For me, I can live with that for now on this leased 28i - but in my next AWD I'm going back to separate summer sport vs winter fitments.

All Season Tires - the best @ nothing

Ok, my bad...I have Pirelli All Seasons - Centurato's I believe and thought that's what you have as well.

Well then that's a bummer
