Fuel pump control module failure/fix (EKPS)
Thought this might be helpful to someone. As these cars get older I'm sure more issues like this will arise.
I was sitting in my car last week after arriving from lunch when all of the sudden the car turns off and I get a bunch of fuel system malfunction messages. I tried to crank it but it would just sputter at best. I let the car cool for a couple off minutes and tried again, this time it started. On the way home that day I made it roughly 10mi when the car shutoff again while driving same messages popped up. I let it cool was able to start it and get going couple of miles later same thing. I made it home and pulled the codes and everything under the sun came up for fuel error codes. I cleared them and decided to start replacing the obvious. I was planning to upgrade the factory pump anyways thanks to this thread created by hardparker. X3 DIY LPFP upgrade I ordered the upgraded pump and kept researching the issue which is when I ran into the fuel pump module failures. One of the codes was insufficient voltage, so I figure I should buy one just in case to have on hand. I got a used unit from a 2012 x3 for $50off ebay. Wasn't sure if I was going to have to code it so I picked one the best matched my car. That week I was able to make it to work and back. My corporate office is only 5mi so I figured I'd take the risk knowing it was only cutting out after getting hot. The fuel pump arrive I installed it (didn't have the module yet) and when I went to test it, the new stronger pump only made things worst. The car now would not stay on more than 2min. The module got here yesterday, I put it in crossed my fingers and bam it worked. Its really easy to access right under the bottom rear seat cushion. I'll probably pick up a newer unit or new china one off ebay as a back-up. I just need to learn how to code it since it may not work if its off another model or new. Hope this helps someone!

I do not believe there is any coding to be done for a LPFP, at least I hope not. I did the same LPFP upgrade hardparker did. it's been ~4 weeks and no issues on my 16'

I don’t think so either. Swapped both HPFP and LPFP on my N54 and no coding was required. I’d think it’d be the same for a N55.
