fellow fanatic, need your opinion
Hey guys, I'm considering getting a '06 E83 3.0 with production date 04/2006 with 78k miles. I know that it has the M54 engine which I'm very familiar with since I own 2 E46's currently. I'm gonna do the usual inspection and will bring it to an independent BMW mechanic before pulling the trigger. My question is, is there any issues on the tranny for this particular year model? Any important thing I need to know on the E83? I know that 09/2006 is where they change some aesthetics, can you point out the difference with the later '06 model. This car has premium pckg with rear parking sensor/ non sport / no xenons / and has the ugly non sport rims, worth it? $16k from the dealer I work for. Alpine white, beige interior. Your thoughts??

I think you can get a car with more and better options if you look around and the color is a bit boring if you ask me. Good luck though whatever you decide, the X3 is a great car and you will love it.

The autobox is GM and a trouble point, get the 6 speed ZF manual. The transfer boxes blew on the early cars and it's a $3k rebuild. The later cars must use the BMW fluid with the correct friction modifiers and it costs more than unicorn tears. 0.7l comes out, 0.9l is recommended as the fill in the parts list. Change it at 80-100k miles.
LCI cars usually got painted bumpers, different steering wheel, different rear lights. |
