Adding TPMS sensors to Winter Wheels- Recoding
Hi all,
I upgrade from a 2012 X3 to a 2015 X3 earlier this year. The 2015 X3 has the tyre pressure sensor (TPMS) built into the wheels (metal valve stems). My old X3 Winter wheels don't have the sensors installed. I called my local independant and they quoted me £65 per wheel to install the sensors (£260 in total fitted). They said they would also clone the code from the existing wheels into the new sensor. I've noticed that there are some 2nd hand wheels on ebay with the sensors already installed for £500. Can I pair wheels from a different X3 onto my X3, or is it a dealer only function? I'm also looking at recoding the X3 to go back to wheel rotation sensing rather then in wheel sensor. |

the valves don't need coding - they just bolt into the wheels, fragile though. Fit, inflate to pressure and use the i-drive to reset. Easy. Don't need a dealer or even a BMW specialist. Any tyre fitting garage will do. Aviod the KwikFit knobs though. The c£260 is about right for OE valves but decent alternatives can be found easily on Amazon et al.

So just to confirm.
I can get TPMS sensor fitted wheels from any other X3, and all I need to do is install them and then reset in IDrive to pair the wheels to my X3? No coding or code cloning (from the existing wheels) required. |
