X3's gone!

Today I sold my X3 2.0D after 10 months of ownership.

Impressions over that time are mixed, I liked the ride comfort (aided by the 17" non rfts) but I found the handling too 'soft'. I also started to get really frustated with the 2.0D engine on the motorway - it just simply doesn't have enough grunt in my eyes.

Rattles and creaks also were a cause of concern and 3 visits to the dealer still didnt cure all of them. I was really disapointed in the overall interior quality, just not acceptable on what was almost a £40k car.

In defense of the X3 an SUV was probably wasn't the right choice for me in hindsight, although it was useful to have in the recent snowy weather its pretty much as bad as all the other 2WD cars on summer tyres when it came to steering and braking and I couldn't justify a dedicated set of winters.

I think had I gone for a 3.0D M-Sport it would have been a different story but I just couldn't stretch that far.

So just around 6 weeks till my next BMW arrives.... a M135i 5dr. Completely different machine but looking forward to the power!

Good luck - the M135i should be a blast!!!

I'm beginning to get a little "bored" with the x3 myself...I'll be a good boy and ride this one out till lease end - barely

Ill have to disagree my x3 28i did great on the snow with factory run flats and outstanding once mounted with blizzaks. Here in Missouri we got a foot of snow And my x3 climes through it like if there was no snow at all. My co worker was so impressed he is now considering the x3

If you don't like X3 interior quality you will find the 1 falling further behind your expectations.

My X3 is loads better in snow than 335i, there's no comparison, I couldn't get the 335i off the drive. Summer tyres on both.

My wife has a 135i and its a blast.

But given the choice I would take my X3 35D over it any day.

Either way, they are great fun...

I have my X3 for almost 2 years now. I like the overall design, the comfort and the ride quality. Frankly, the interior craftmanship is below what a upscale German car should be. For example, the window rubber seals on all 4 doors do not look identical, and it is one of the reasons why so many ppl complained about the excessive wind noise and traffic noise. To me, it is a minor issue.

We don't have the M135i 5dr over here but it looks like fun.

I don't suspect you'll loose too much utility as I find the X3 boot a little small.

I went in to enquire about a new X3 to replace our short lived one and ended up coming out with a M135i. Had it for about 5 months now and love it to bits, so much fun and even with 320ps I am still getting 30mpg out of it so cant be bad.

Still toying with the idea of getting anopther X3 for Mrs W, although she would rather have an Evoque...

We're a bit torn between the Evoque and the X3 when we come to change, not sure the engine would be as good as the BMW. Plus I think the Evoque is a bit overpriced for what it is, and I'm not sure on reliability with Land Rovers past.

I do think the Evoque is more trendy though

Which is precicely why Mrs W's head has been turned. I would still perfer the X3 and agree that the BMW engines are much better.

Is it just me who thinks the evoque looks like Robocop's rear end ? :-)

Or maybe it's the other way around :-)

Looks like a "contradictio in terminis" to me; good handling, in particular with an SUV requires some concessions with regard to ride comfort. PS: Of course, my E36/8 handles much much better than my F25

I donno... I kinda like it still. I was on my way home from my second test drive of the Evoque when, "on a lark" decided to "try" the X3. I never planned on buying a BMW.

I still think the X3 is ugly but I bought it anyway after driving it.

BTW, anyone notice how small the brakes are on the RR?

Evoque has a fixed sunroof. This immediately disqualified it for us. 80 and sunny and I cant roll the roof back? Please, whats then?

The X3 is much more fun to drive too....Evoque is missing some grunt, bigtime. It was OK but nothing special. Beautiful Estoril on that 1 series, love that color.

That's the goofiest looking roofline towards the rear I've ever seen.
