Official "Clear Bra" Protective Film thread
One of the drawbacks of buying a new design model is the lag time for aftermarket products to catch up. Such is the case with protective films (clear bras). I thought this thread would be a good area for members to post information about available products and installers.
So far, I have found one brand available for the 2011 X3: http://www.lamin-x.com/BMW-X3-11-Pai...on-p/b036f.htm No kit available yet for the M-Sport bumper however.

Now you've hit something near and dear to my heart...I had this installed on my car and am quite happy with the results. I've got the Deep Sea Blue and I know I needed as much protection for my baby as possible. I'll admit that I didn't get the hood 100% covered - only the first 20" because that's what they recommended based on their experience and the cost savings - and the ONLY thing that's visible is a thin line across the hood that you have to look for. It's certainly not something that people walk by and notice. (They'd most definitely notice paint chips)
My place does custom coverings only. Anything pre-cut would leave too much room for error. All I know is I've got it, I'm very happy about it and I would most certainly recommend it to anyone. http://avoclearbra.com/Fundamentals.html |

The visibility of the film depends on a few factors:
-Thickness of the film -Color of the vehicle -Quality of installation That last one is more important than you think, which is why I would try to disuade anyone from a DIY job. When the pro installed mine on my E90 it took him 10 hours, and he'd done hundreds of them. On a white car like mine, the edges of the film are almost invisible. You have to know where to look to see them. However, there is a slight yellowish hue under certain light conditions and angles, due to the adhesive not the film. This is minor and I haven't minded it (after four years). With darker colors like blacks, blues, greens, etc. you would not notice any yellowing but the edges might be slightly more noticable.

I've learned that there are several suppliers of patterns. Installers can download them and laser cut the film at their shop. So finding the pattern is key.
Here is one resource: http://invisiblepatterns.com/ |
