Tires rotation on X3?
Do you guys rotate your tires on your X3? I read it online that BMW doesn't recommend tires rotation on X3. Is that right?
I have a 2011 X3 35i, just got a flat today. Since most of the tire stores do not have run flat tires in stock, I have no choice but to change it at the stealer... My car has about 21K miles on it. I don't think it's good to have ONE brand new tire at the rear left, and am thinking about changing the rest of the three. Any thoughts ladies and gentlemen?? Thanks! |

I experienced this in my old X3 (e83). There was a lot of talk on the forums about X-drive and the issues that were created when one tire was new. Something with the transfer case getting screwed up. Might want to research it. However, a lot could have changed with the current X-drive that it wont matter.
I replaced all 4 tires out of paranoia caused by people telling me that I should or risk my transfer case. |

If you get a tire from tirerack supposedly they can trim some of the tread off to match your other tires. Try and check with some performance tuning companies if they can offer the same service.

RMDoxie, I believe AWD vehicles need all 4 tires to be within a certain mm in diameter. Depending on how worn the other 3 tires are at 21000 miles, you might want to consider 4 new tire. We rotated our X3's tires at 10000, no issues what so ever.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
The X Men: So I guess you do rotate your tires on your X. I used a quarter to measure the tread and the other three tires are significant lower than the new one. I have a feeling that I will need to change the other three tires... Now I have a headache finding a good tire mounting store. Don't think I will bring it back to the "stealer" (Goodyear run flat tire = 363, but the total bill was 486), they charged ~$70 for the job... |

I've changed several of my X3 tires in the 3 years that I've owned it. I bought the tire insurance when I purchased my X3 and that turned out to be a great deal for me. I haven't had any issues replacing just one tire. I can't rotate my summer tires since I have a staggered setup. I do rotate the winter tires when I put them on each fall.

I have rotated my tires every 4000 to 5000 miles. Cross the front tires to the back and straight to the front. Got 40000 miles on my tires and still had 3 32nds left.
