Non-Piggyback ECU Tunes Available for F25s

Lots of buzz over in the F8x board about a Belgian company (BR-performance) claiming to have cracked the new Bosch DME. The site lists ECU tunes for many Fxx models, including X3s! Thought I'd post in the X3 forum as there has been much discussion about tunes with the recent release of the Dinantronics.

Key Figures:

35i Stage 1: 365 bhp, 383 lb-ft (peak), 840 euro
28i Stage 1: 290 bhp, 332 lb-ft (peak), 820 euro

Both of these come in below D-Tronics (the 35i by almost half) and are actual ECU re-flashes, not piggyback tunes.

Currently the only way to do this is to send your ECU in, but it looks like AMS will be the US licensee/distributor for these tunes and that any official AMS shop will be able to do these in house. Not sure on the time-frame but potentially in the next month or two. I am talking to a local tuner about this, and will pass along any info as I get it.

Thanks for this, this looks/sounds very interesting
With their 5yr warranty hope it does make all competitors pricing better as well.

Since BMW doesn't want to crack or release a Performance Power Kit for us 28i / N20
Might as well support everyone else working hard on proving improvement.

What is AMS ?

Seems like a no-brainer for them. BR-Performance (the tuner that cracked the BMW/Bosch ECU) seems to be licensing whatever software they used to do so... but for bench (non-portable) tunes. See here.

As far as I know, DINAN has the largest network of installers/dealers and would dominate the bench flash market, even if other tuners licensed the IP as well (to say nothing of the warranty).

Best outcome, I think, would be for DINAN to offer anyone who buys the piggyback the ability to upgrade to the flash for a nominal (or $0) cost, if/when it comes out.

If they did, I'd go buy the piggyback tomorrow.

This makes sense to me as well...

That's almost $2k can. Cheaper than the Dinah piggyback! Cool.

Guys I emailed BR-Performance Bruno replied "We work with many tuners in the USA, AMS is also very good, but Enzo might be closer for you."

EnzoPerformance is located in Long Island, I've emailed him and have some info..
There's another forum member I think he has a M4, who's going to Enzo on Thursday.

New Bmw’s require unlocking ecu so it will take some time for me to tune your car. I will have equipment to do unlocking in house sometime this week hopefully. Once Equipment is in hand turn around time for a tune will be 1~2 days. This means the tune is custom tailored to your truck for maximum reliable gains and made in house.

Are you not content with your current RC chip? Any issues?

I am content never said I was not no issues, but I don't suspect anything gives issues within the first month the test should be done long-term, 5k+ miles.

I just asked out of curiosity and I can share the knowledge with others nearby.
Since BR-Performance tune can become the competition to Dinan with better prices. The more options the better we have.

An update yesterday (1/6/15) from my local AMS dealer on the BR-licensed/sold/whatever AMS tunes:

"There is no ETA at the moment for the 335 software. Next software in line to release is for the M5."

So... the S63 are rolling out first I guess, I'll keep everyone updated on this thread when I hear more. Don't know how long I'll wait considering I may only have this car for another year or two, may go for an RC ultimate after seeing those numbers and hearing Rob's feedback

Update as well,

There already M4/M5 in NYC with Full Enzo Performance ECU Flash (Long Island Tuner) with a long history of exotics. Also, there's a Z4 with BR-Performance tune in NJ (he sent out his ECU to them) though.

Nice power numbers! Would be a good upgrade from my current BMS chip.

Our ZF8HP45 transmission is only rated for 330lb-ft though...

Well interesting to notice if the 28i and 35i share the same transmission, and there's folks with their 35i tuned (n55 engine) doing over 350 torque what does that tell me?
Just saw a article saying 8HP45 is up to 500 Nm which is 368lb-ft torque
http://www.zf.com/corporate/en_de/pr...xle_gear.shtml

Also the n55 is 95% more modified by users than the n20, and they're hitting 350+ tq easy with just stage1 tunes, add a downpipe add stage2 tune you're looking at 380-400hp/tq equally

Anyone wanting the Software ECU Flash tune go for its available provided in the USA by BR-Performance and its friends (AMS, Enzo Performance, EaS, ESS, Gintani, and Evolve) .. There's 1-2 n20 folks, definitely numerous M3/M4, 550 and M5 already is what i've seen the most and they're very happy how smoother the software tune is compared to their piggyback (stage2 tune). This would be a bigger gain for those of you who are stock. Email your favorite tuner or closer to you in regards to any questions and share with us.

500nm is the diesel version. Gas version is 450nm.

X3 sometimes gives the mysterious "Drivetrain Malfunction" error (couple formum posts already). I have experienced 2 or 3 times after the BMS chip on my N55, but i can't say for sure if it is related to the additional torque or something else. Piggy back tune doesn't drive too smooth ( lumpy power delivery....).

Crashnbrn5 was constantly getting Drivetrain Malf with his JB3 (bms stage1) lol then got rid of it.
I haven't seen any drivetrain malf yet (knock on wood) and i've increased pretty high settings in the tune back in jan-feb but have settled down for a better balance and smoother response since im stock.

There's a lot of N55 folks pushing JB4, Racechip, much more aggressive than bms stage1 so thats why I dont think the transmission is as limited.

There's a 228 guy on the forum doing 284whp/330tq and prob more right now as the video was taken back in December.
Another Z4 28i member tracks his car and has BR-P flash.

Right here 312hp/355tq 328
