Winter Tire Setup

I am interested in knowing what setup people have for winter tires on their X4.

I prob would prefer sticking with a BMW rim, just not sure on the 18 vs 19". Then put on probably WS80s or Hakkas in a narrow sizing.

Thanks for any comments.

I got some Hakka's R2 in 245/50R18 for all 4, to be mounted on Enkei Raijin's which are arriving next Tuesday. I can take pics if you want when they get mounted. Ggalanis has a pretty cool setup too.

Be great to see, thank you.

It seems that from what I have gathered 245/50/18 is the best size for winter, like yours.

The wheels I got were 175$ each and I find they look really nice.
My salesman even complimented them on looking very nice when I went back to see him.
Tires are the same as elimpfor
The wheels Graz-RTX
Their website is www.rtxwheels.com
You can get them in 18" and 19"

Here they are on my car (18")

Thanks guys. I am leaning towards the 19" BMW Style 309 rims as I quite like them..just not sure about running 19s in the winter..I did that once and now on 17s and much prefer my current setup...

Very, very happy with the WS80's on the wifes 28i...They are 18's - square set-up, non rft.

Had fix a flat on board just in case. We got some silver wheels from TireRack for cheap and off we went. Nothing sexy, purely a functional/safety play.

Stored the oem 19's on 3 seasons till just recently.

Wheels are in!

Tires will be mounted Monday, so I will post pics, but I have also a set of OEM BMW center caps, not sure which looks better though:

I'm leaning for the BMW ones... What do you guys think?

Center caps are the following at Amazon

The rims I got a great deal from Tirerack. Even with shipping, customs and our shitty dollar, it still was a better deal than getting it locally. I got them for 181 USD (there was a sale for the 42mm offset which is what I needed) and with shipping, customs and all, it was 1298 CAD$

You have to be careful, you can get 2 types of offsets for the same wheel on the same car according to Tirerack. I went as close as possible to stock offset for an 18" from here.

Also, my exact model number if anyone cares is ENKEI 467-880-1242GM.

Google that to compare.

I have always used and loved the Firestone Winterforce winter tires on my previous vehicles. If anyone knows what Im talking about, do you think it will fit our new x4?

Although Hakkas and X Ice3s usually top them, my WS80s on my current vehicle amazed me this winter..after running a performance winter the year prior.

The WS80s are really good on ice and in snow..incredible actually in snow..but now with dry pavement I still find them quite good..they don't seem squishy to me personally. Plus they were the cheapest of the three mentioned above. I would like to try the others if they are rated higher, but it would be tough to chance leaving the WS80s after they have won me over. Prob will put them on the X4 as well.

My girlfriend has the X Ice3's on her Impreza, they are awesome, but wear fast. I went with the Hakka's because they ended up being free (VW Diesel Scandal 1000$ compensation + end of season sale). The WS80 are very well rated, and was in my top 3 as well but I've never had Hakkapeliitta's so thought I would give it a go.

When I went shopping for winter tire solutions (at the time, had 20" wheels on the car), the tire shop said there was a very poor selection of winter 19" tires, but that 18" options were abundant and significantly cheaper. Something to consider or look into if you're trying to decide between 19" and 18".

I ended up finding a set of barely used OEM BMW 18" wheels with TPMS sensors and all season tires from an X3 for $1200 on Craigslist. Just needed to buy the center caps from Amazon. Having an extra set of TPMS sensors is great, I just slap the new tires on and go.

Here are the tires mounted on the wheels. Sorry for crappy scenery, just got the wheels cleaned and ready for storage. It's pouring rain out here.

Threat of snow this weekend. I am well aware of how the PSS's performed in the snow on my M5, so I threw the winter package on today. 9 x 19s with Dunlop Graspic DS-3.

OK those are my new Winter rim favorites! Really like that look..it gives it like an old school Porsche look or something..really works well.

Are those OEM BMW rims, and if so can you confirm the model?

Sorry if I asked before, but assume those windows are tinted and if so, how much percentage? Thanks!
