In your x3? I'm in the market for a new car and wanted some opinions.

Looking for an x3 28 with msport

I feel like the x3 is a bit of a girls car, so also how many males are driving this car?

Was anyone considering the evoque?

I'm sorry but there is NO gender when you talk about cars. Even if you talk about minivans, it's all about what you need...

A girls car is like a 207CC... no one would call an X3 SUV a girls car!

Im 100% happy with ours, and the girl in the 207CC I left at the lights yesterday was a bit impressed too!

Personally I'm not sure I'd recommend an X3 in the guise I ordered to a friend.

My main gripe relates to the 2.0D which doesnt affect you anyway as they aren't currently available in the US. I don't believe its powerful enough for the weight it needs to push around (becomes apparent at speeds over 50mph).

Also I think the interior quality isn't up to scratch, the 1 series I borrowed from the dealership felt much more solid than the X3 does.

lol..... yes as she was in the rear view mirror..... and it can carry 5 people (not 2+2 small kids) and a large load and it does better mpg....

There will always be a stereotype for any vehicle. Some comparable vehicles Audi Q5 - snobs, MB GLK - ugly with power, Lexus RX350 - poor drive woman's family car and Infiniti EX - No idea.

Depending on the region you reside, there is no perfect vehicle that could meet everyone's expectations. Take care of your own needs and don't worry about others.

A BMW 328 is for young single males, but the X3 with the same length and engine, but taller is suddenly for females? I got the car for the kids, you might have other needs. Compare to other cars and decide on your own which is better.

Yes, the X3 is a girls car... you WILL be laughed at by REAL men if you get one and you'll probably even start playing for the other team after driving it for more than 20000miles.

ROFL, that was one of my concerns. But let me first put a disclaimer that I'm not sexist, I'm just saying I'd prefer a car that was more marketed towards my gender.

It was down to the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3.
Originally the BMW wasn't a contender because I would rather have a Benz for the price, but the GLK is too small and about to get revamped next year...and I kept seeing females driving it.

The Audi Q5 looked very techie inside, which I do like, but the quality and feel was just not there and it was a bit too low to the ground than I would like for an SUV.

I am so far very happy with the X3 (had it for exactly one week). BMW is one of the more manlier brands anyway, but the X3 is by far not the most macho in their lineup. If you're really concerned about image, I'd go for the X6.

I'm haven't bought one yet, but I'm on the fence too regarding the X3. Not because the man/girl issue...

I'm wondering if after owning sedans my whole life I can live with an SUV as my daily driver. I'm single. I'm the type of guy who likes to toss vehicles around corners as fast as possible and do "spirited" driving every chance I get. I don't know if I'll be kicking myself after purchasing an X3.

I think there is indeed something to be said about what gender might be associated with some cars. True, cars are nothing more than an assembly of steel, and other soulless materials. However, some cars just seem to exhibit characteristics and a personality that one would naturally attribute to one gender or another. Also, some vehicles appear to be more frequently seen with girl drivers than others. For example...

Miatas (especially pink) or Volkswagon Beatles (especially with a flower in the included holder) are clearly girls' cars. No self respecting male with at least one molecule of testosterone would want to be seen driving one of these vehicles. If any male cannot intuitively understand this he needs to reconsider what his orientations really are.

A Toyota S2000 is a girl's car but at least a girl that a guy can respect.

Pickup Trucks are predominantly a guy's vehicle but there are some girls that know how to climb in and out of them with aplomb and even how to appropriately dress when driving one. With respect to this kind of girl only, pick up trucks are dual gender. I do not know how a girl relates to the size of a pick up truck but, with respect to a guy, I am reasonably certain the size of a pickup truck is inversely proportional to the size of his self confidence.

I own a Z3 3.0i Roadster. When I bought it new I had a number of friends ask why I was buying a girl's car in lieu of something masculin like a M3. I just smiled. Let me tell you, there is nothing prissy about the way the Z3 goes around corners in second gear at high RPM or the sounds and feeling it gives when you suddenly downshifting to third, flooring it, and feeling the acceleration as it accelerates past cars on a two lane road. Even the exhaust burble makes a statement of its core masculinity. Therefore, I have come to conclusion the Z3 is a multigender vehicle that easily takes on the personality/gender of the driver. It has a bi personality and can go both ways. Automatics are for girls and manuals with a real clutch are for guys.

I was ready to pull the trigger on a new X3 but am now thinking of waiting to April when it will have the significantly upgraded Nav system (Toys are important to my wife and I). I am going to buy the 28i instead of the 35i so I am not comfortable with the fact that my primary driver will be somewhat wimpy with respect to the 35i. In fact, in the back of my mind I am thinking I will be buying the feminine version of the car (small engine and automatic Ugh). Nevertheless, because of the large amount of miles I expect to put on it, the 28i really makes a lot more sense.

Who cares what others think? Unless you drive around with a Hello Kitty license plate frame and Abba music blaring from the stereo, buying an X3 won't add or detract from the gender-specific perceptions of the vehicle.

I went from an E90 335i sedan to a 35i X3 and couldn't be happier. The car is functional, VERY fun to drive, has plenty of power, way more room than the E90, all the latest tech, striking design and meets all my requirements. I'm keeping it for a long time. The only comments I've gotten is how good looking it is and what a surprising amount of power it has. When the 35i is in Sport mode with 300 horses growling away, it certainly seems manly enough!

Go test drive both models, compare to other vehicles and make the choice that makes the best sense for you. You can't miss with the X3!

Hmm, I never thought the X3 as a girl's car. It has pretty sharp lines which seemed more masculine to me. Anyway I see males and females driving X3s around here. Everyone I know personally who has one is male.

I agree; ladies are impressed.

I believe BMW designers worked to address that specific concern - that the X3 would be considered a girl's car - and designed it to feel more masculine. Especially with M-Sport, it has an almost aggressive look, especially in the front. And 19" wheels or 20s give it a more youthful feel. The interior impresses as well, especially at night with the subtle red glow of the cabin and the techy aspects. It's manly enough for me.
