245-50-18 -> which tires came with your rig?

Am reading about the Goodyear LS2. What tires came with your rig?

I ordered a sport - 2.8i, which will have 245-50-18.

Wondering if I should just ask the dealer to swap them out if my rig arrives from the factory with the LS2 installed.

I've got the 245/45-19s coming on my M-sport, and it seems that everyone in the US is getting the LS-2s on theirs...needless to say, I have already decided to replace them once the X3 gets here.

I think the 18's are fine and are not getting the Goodyear LS2's. It is the 19's (309's) and M-sports that are getting the crappy Goodyears.

The 28i with the SAP at the dealer had the Goodyears. My 35i with the SAP has the P7's.

Maybe a stupid question. I want dedicated Summer and dedicated winter tires. I am getting the M sport and I dont the LS2's. What are the real world options for getting rid of those? Sell them online? i asked my dealer and they are kinda taking the hands off approach... How can I get the most value from the LS2's so I can get some fun summer and grippy winter rubber?

Thanks!

US-Spec M-Sport: 245-45/19 LS2s.

After looking at the bulk of the reviews on this tire it is bit disappointing that BMW would shoe any car with something so lousy, let alone something that wears an //M logo anywhere on it.

Exactly, which is why I plan on replacing them immediately with some P Zero Nero All-Seasons I found in the 245/45-19 size that carry an XL load rating (unlike most tires in this size).

Run Flats

Has anybody swapped 307s (245/50R18) for Michelin MXM4s non run flats?
What's your experience?Any other solutions to RFT in this size?

I don't really have any complaints yet with the Goodyear LS-2's. I've got about 2k on them and so far they are quiet and comfortable. I'm not likely to put my X3 on the track anytime soon, and have reasonable expectations (I think). The worst tires I ever had on a BMW were Bridgestones. They were so bad it wasn't funny. BMW finally ended up replacing most of them, that's how bad they were.

Best tire I ever had was Michelin Pilot Sport A/S... they were awesome (but not RFTs). These days, my criteria for a good tire is quiet, comfortable, good wear. I've had run flats on BMWs for so many years that I'm used to it, so they don't bother me.

My issue with the LS2s are not necessarily their dry performance - you expect to make compromises when you have an "all season" tire.

And an all season tire IS a logical choice for an AWD SUV.

Where I have a beef with it is that you get the aforementioned compromised summer performance, but none of the balance - if the vast majority of the reviews are to be believed, the wet/snow/ice performance of this tire is abysmally poor.

So you get the worst of both worlds. Shitty dry handling and similar wet/icy performance.

Why they couldn't just put a decent tire on it like the Conti DWS and a mobility kit is beyond me.

I was suprized that mine came equipped with Primacy MXM4's. I was not aware that Michelin was supplying run flats on the X3.

I have a set of Michelin RFTs for the X5 that I use in winter and they are very good tires. Wish I had gotten Michelins on the X3!!

Plus, you can practically walk over to the plant and ask them about it....

Very good point. I won't have any first hand opinion of that until winter of course, but an all season tire that has poor wet performance is not exactly worth having.

I know we all like to think that BMW partners with tire manufacturers and selects specific tire models to fit with the engineering and performance elements of their vehicles - but the reality is that they do it the same way every other brand does... the cheap bidder wins. Unless you buy a true M car, not much thought is given to the tires that go on it.
