What's new in MY 2012?

Hi,

I tried to find info but couldn't find what is new in the 2012 models of X3? Engines, yes, but little improvements as well?

In my wishlist there would be:

- better sound proofing of the 2.0 diesel engine (compared to Audi Q5, BMW is too noisy)

- a little smoother ride

- more soundproofing for tyre noise as well

Does any of you have any idea what they have changed? I know that BMW is always making little improvements.

Thanks!

The smell. I hear they have greatly improved the new car smell for 2012.

For US models:

- Xenons are standard on 35i now.
- 35i with SAP comes with anthracite headliner
- middle dashboard strip now has a piano finish (glossy black)
- Cold Weather Package split into 2 (cold weather package 1 and 2)
- 35i with SAP now comes with 19" wheels instead of 18"

No change to engines.

I'm hoping the 2012's fixed the engine rpm issue on startup and got a new supplier for window motor control units.

In Europe 2 liter gasoline turbo is new engine for MY 2012.

And we have that glossy black strip as an option, you can have it in "satine silver" or "glossy black".

Which one would be better...?

I haven't seen a picture of silver, but as the rest of the dash is black I think glossy black would look better. Would be nice not to have gloss because it scratches easily. If you have a photo of the satin strip please share.

Rodion, If you want a smoother ride don't use 19" wheels - simple. I also know your roads are better quality than UK, also helps

Roads in coventry are the worst I have ever driven on bar none, here in Norfolk they are good.

They always were, even in 2011.

- I love the way the 2.0 diesel sounds as is, if anything it needs to be louder

- smoother ride will lose the sportiness of it

- i dont notice the tirenoise, im too busy listneing to music

My only wish for now would be a solution to the wind noise starting at 50 mph, but I think BMW would not improve anything significant until the face-lift .Only some optic goodies like piano black trims .

Your 2nd and 3rd points would probably be fixed by dumping the RFTs (assuming you have them).

Also for the MY2012 in the US, the cold weather package was split into two separate packages.

i should add that apparently the merged convenience/premium package is 35i only - still separate packages on 28i. who keeps track of this stuff?

I will do that for winter tyres, but should I do it also for summer... or use default tyres and then after few years buy "normal" summer tyres as well.

I'd at least give the default tyres a chance for summer before replacing them. If you find them acceptable, then you've saved some money.

Actually it would be almost cost-free to change at the dealr RF -> NRF.

They told me that in here it is rare size to have as RF. So if I get a punctured RF tire, it might take week to get a replacement tire...

http://tirerack.com lists many runflats for the X5 but only 1 for the F25 X3.

Think it's a matter of time before more companies release these tires or will we be stuck with 1 choice?
