UK Variable Sports Steering

Still looking for feedback from anyone who has got this (which includes Servotronic) versus Servotronic alone and also just normal (without VSS and Servotronic). Thanks.

I will risk an answer... Servotronic will vary steering behavior in function of the speed, variable sport steering is just a feature to adjust the steering tightness in function of the driving mode you selected (normal, sport, sport+).

Do we really have servotronic on 2011 X3?

The driving mode only adjusts the steering weight. VSS varies the steering ratio depending on the amount of lock applied. Servotronic is standard in a number of markets, & it can be retrofitted.
Wht we want to know is whether servotronic &/VSS affect steering feedback.

Maybe one day there will be a simulator where you can sit in a BMW and experience the effects of switching options like VSS and servo on and off. But then I think we'd still argue about whether the real car was the same as the simulator .

In the interests of science and possibly my next BMW purchase I will try to test drive a non-servo X3 so I can compare with mine. Unfortunately this won't be the only difference because the demo rims will likely be 17 non-RFTs, and not staggered. Also perf control will play a part.

All I know is that on a test drive vehicle without Servotronic (and therefore VSS) there was no feeling through the steering. It felt like a video game, well....those without feedback on their controls anyway. I'm trusting that Servotronic and VSS improve the situation.

Well, don't have ur hopes too high cos servo & non-servo shares the same steering rack - the only difference is in the software. VSS uses a different rack but u cannot compare any type of EPS with good old hydraulic system.

I was fearing that.....I'm old enough to remember when PS wasn't standard on most UK cars, we justified it to ourselves by saying how much better the steering feel was without PS. EPS in comparison to even 80's HPS is dead feeling.
