2008 X3 acceleration issue
Bought this rig with 50k on it last year. Noticed almost immediately, hesitation in mid range under heavy acceleration. Freeway on ramp usually. Almost feels like the engine misses. Might be a little worse now. Never noticed it under any other driving circumstances. In looking at forum posts, this seems early for a fuel filter. Thoughts?

Honestly this could be a lot of things including the fuel filter, depends where it's been fueled up. I'd see first if there was a code and run from there.
Some things to check: fuel filter fuel pump ignition coils spark plugs camshaft position sensor (both intake and exhaust) vanos solenoids (both intake and exhaust) Mass airflow sensor Throttle body and Disa (check for varnish build up [some is normal]) check all vacuum lines You can clean the vanos solenoids with carb cleaner. They are easy bolt on solenoids in the front of the engine behind the radiator. The camshaft position sensors are also easy to remove and replace. But like I said, I'd start to see if it has thrown a code first. You don't want to start throwing money around on replacement sensors and solenoids if you can localize the problem first. Owning any older BMW requires a small investment on a good code reader. Perhaps a Bluetooth capable OBDII scanner from Amazon paired to a smartphone using the Torque app would be a good start. |

My '07 did this when the transfer case actuator gear was slightly worn. When it would skip teeth on the worm gear while under acceleration, it would trigger the traction control and cut timing - feels like a hesitation. I chased everything - plugs, coils, VANOS solenoids - none of them would make it stop "misfiring." After I replaced the gear in the transfer case actuator, the problem never came back.
