Phone music audio question
Ok so maybe someone on here can help me as I feel stupid when I should not. So I got my wife a 17 x3 has the larger screen nav that doesn't seem to want to load. Then I go to connect the phone with the carplay that I was told is on the car also shows on my connected drive profile I have it. My phone says I'm connected so does the car but no carplay. So I try to just connect phone by Bluetooth says its connected on my phone and the car can make calls but no music can be streamed. So then I pull out the trusty Iphone cable thinking this has to work NOPE nothing again when selecting the phone. Am I crazy and BMW has stopped allowing music from a phone? my 14 3 series could stream audio Bluetooth and USB but this 17 x3 cant? sorry for the rant just confused by BMW tactics now I guess.

Try doing this...
On the menu screen, go into Multimedia > External Device > Connections > highlight your phone and press "Option" tab on the iDrive controller. Then select "Configure Device" and make sure that "Audio" is also checked/selected along with "Telephone." When you connect the first time through Bluetooth, sometimes it doesn't automatically default to "Telephone & Audio" function. Instead, it connects to Telephone or Audio only. My Galaxy phone connected to both function automatically, but for some reason my wife's iPhone only connected to Audio so I just changed the setting. It should be that simple. If the above doesn't work, remove phone from the BMW setting and also remove BMW bluetooth from your phone. Restart your phone and try setting up bluetooth again with the car. I haven't tried this but this is what I read online. If that doesn't work than its a software issue either with BMW or Apple iOS. |

Isn't there a charge for carplay? I realize it's a free option now, but for a 2017 model year? Just a thought but maybe you need to purchase a subscription?

lol welp. hurray for a new radio.
check the settings in the media section of the idrive and check the settings of the bluetooth in your phone. Go into your bluetooth settings and choose the BMW, make sure the box is checked to "Use for" media audio. |

Yeah I realize that - use BT obviously. But I thought the OP was trying to use CP?
