Winter Pics

I haven't posted here much at all. I figured I'd start a thread on winter pics and opinions. I'm on my 2nd winter with Michelin X-Ice on aftermarket 18s (edit: corrected from 17s). They got their first test of the year on a Christmas trip to WV. Both my sister and niece have steep driveways. It snowed 2-3" Christmas morning & I had no issues. I got to play with HDC as well.

Making use of the winter tires in Charlotte this morning too!

Ahh!! I love me an X4 with 18" rims... proper fat looking urban assault vehicle!!! Great choice on the rims!! I went with Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8s, studless for the sake of sanity... Not sure I could ask anything more of them, the car drives like a champ.. but I do have a quick question @richard in NC how is the rear-end stability at high-speed with the winter tires? (80Mph +).. do you find it twitchy?

I complained to my dealer that mine was a little loose in the rear-end at highway speeds and they told me it's my fault for putting non-runflat tires with the M Sports Steering, plus the after-market winter rims I have stick out about half an inch further in the rear than the stock OEM offset, which throws off the camber angles for the rear axle. How does yours ride at speed?

Wait, those are 17" rims?!? Really?!???? What tire size do you have on there?

My mistake! They are 245/50x18 f&r on 18" rims.

And yes I get some twitchiness at speed. I just thought it was tramlining on certain road surfaces or the fact the tires have much deeper tread blocks than the PSS.
