Hello everyone,

Long story short, nobody makes Downpipes for our SAC so I decided to reach out to a local shop that does full-time Fabrication & Performance mainly for Porsche but also seen GTRs, Hellcats, Benz, Audi RS7, even M's.

Anything Fabrication related they seem to be PRO at it.
Didn't know what to expect, but gave them a ring and drove by (20mins away from work). We chatted, I showed them I had bought a Downpipe from a Canadian company who makes DPs for X3 35i according to realoem.com the part number is the same as ours. Now where it changes, is the mid-pipe and the flange/clamp.

Within an hour, I received a phone call letting me know the DP i had wouldnt fit because it was 3.5" (Turbo side) and our OEM is 4'. He sent me pics via Text, and I asked what do they recommend? They said they can make one, I asked how long will you need the car for? Fast forward 24hrs later (this was Yesterday Morning) and just picked up my car (1hour ago) after work.

Throughout this process, I was sent pictures on both side by side, old, and new one. One word, is WOW! Car sounds so much aggressive now, under acceleration is where you think there's a little V8 under the hood (maybe im exaggerating but it sounds 10x better than stock) although our stock is hands down better than any N55 bmw has in their lineup, M2/X4 M40i in this case.

Update as of 3/01/17::: I have installed a F22/F30 N55 Intercooler from a "CTS Turbo brand Sale" and AIM installed it for me since it required a little jimmy. http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1355232

Here are some pictures of the OEM + 3.5" , and then the Oem + Custom 4" side by side. Tomorrow morning will do a Cold-start on GoPro and whatever other request. I have made stock X4 M40i videos as well for anyone who's curious to compare.

PIEZON, be aware, cracks and burbles goes with M40i - not 35i.

Although your burbles/crackles wont sound as loud as mine or maybe as aggressive, it will wake your car up big time (Sound + Performance) is the best mod for the buck.

If you want more "Burble" can be added with the right Tune

The problem is BMW uses in all N55 engines a 3.5" DP on the older 35's and we confirmed M40i has 4" (Turbo side) as you can see in the pictures in the other post. So not sure if it will fit or how different without comparing your OEM DP to the pic of mine i uploaded.

LMAO, its funny how Tjalle knows about M40i (Not Much I can tell you that)

Trust me, Catless DP is noticeable lol dont touch it if its wife's car.

Even in EcoPro you can hear it just a bit, Comfort definitely on WOT and Sport+ Always lol. But I truly enjoy it and am happy no need to buy expensive aftermarket exhaust anymore this does what i wanted.

I am going to do a GoPro recording from inside cabin driving in Comfort and EcoPro only to work tomorrow as moderate as possible, for you.

Very impressive and look at that long gear pull. Could you do 0-60 run? wanna see hows that compared to my 35i.

And whats that weird warning sign, I never seen it in any BMW.

Thanks for sharing. Really appreciate it! I timed it thats like 4.3 sec to 60 and some runs got 4.2 which is really impressive. Thats like 1.2 secs faster than my slightly tuned 35i. IMPRESSIVE!! whats your best 1/4 mile with the tune?

I haven't ran with this new Flash tune yet, and also the videos I've uploaded are in Beta Revisions meaning not final yet as we were progressively tuning for 4th-5th gear and now targeting mid-range 3rd gear so the 0-60 will get faster in the next few revisions as it get close to Final.

I have an M40i (will receive it in about a month), Does AIM Performance NJ or any other guy sell catless downpipes without bringing the car in their shop ? I live in Africa so...

Also my car will remain stock, I guess i'll have to get a tune to avoid error codes ?

If you can live with the check engine light then no need to tune it, but if you want to take advantage of the downpipe, clear the CEL and have more fun haha (reliable power) then yes a proper tune like Bootmod3 will be the most convenient for you.

Thanks.. I read out there that without a proper tune the car can misunderstand the excess of pollution and think the car runs leans and adapt accordingly (and mistaken), but your answer fits me

I will indeed ship my DME to bootmod3 guys to unlock it and do the necessary..

Do you think the guys at AIM Performance can sell / ship a custom downpipe for my car (and so have the dimensions of it to make it) ? What's the cost of that ?

Car will go on Dyno this month to see the gains of the Downpipes + the intercooler just installed by @AIMperformanceNJ yesterday.

My temps are no longer above 100F when in Throttle
