Dealer discounts
I am thinking about ordering a 28i (Deep Sea Blue w/ Chestnut interior, cold wx, prem sound, Sport, tech, and premium)
The MSRP comes to $48,125. Cars.com shows an invoice of $44,435. What sort of discounts have dealers been giving on the 28i? Edmunds doesnt have any info on the 2012's yet, so I am not sure what to shoot for during negotiations. Thanks! |

$500-$1,000 over invoice is a good price.
Some dealers offer $500 off MSRP and say that's the best they can possibly do. Another dealer will give you $2,500 off MSRP with no haggling. I got $2,725 off a few weeks ago. I could have done better if I pushed for it. I haven't seen 2012 invoice prices but I'm sure they are very similar to 2011. Good luck!

I paid about 5% below MSRP - 3.5% above invoice if i did the math right on my 2011. its a 35i shouldn't matter much though. there might have been another $200-300 but i got a great appraisal on my trade and I was close to edmunds TMV.
def love the deep sea blue after much deliberation I thought chestnut was too red for the blue exterior and went w/ mojave. there is someone on this list who has deep sea blue w/ chestnut, and several of us have it w/ mojave if you want to search for picts. Look at my picts on the deep sea blue thread on the photos videos section of this board. DSB+Mojave is a stunning combo. i hope edmunds updates soon - i used that to help me figure out what to pay. based on your MSRP - you should be paying just under $46k

also if you are driving a prior X3, you should qualify for 1000 owner loyalty - be sure you get that on top of what deal you make (assuming it hasn't changed)

Thanks! I will check out the Mojave. You're right, the Chestnut can look a bit too orange or red. I also wonder if it will look dated over time, while black or Mojave are more neutral colors.

i wanted a color that was more like cinnamon (Audi Q5 interior color) or Terra (similar to cinnamon - the leather on my friend's 2007 335xi.. Chestnut wasn't that - its ok though I really love the Mojave.
I try to avoid black interior's that's personal preference based on how hot my old 2003 VW passat w/ black leather got in the summer.

Its ok Mojave is an X3 exclusive color and its really pretty. makes DSB+Mojave more unique because DSB is available on almost every current BMW, but Mojave leather is not

I got the mud flaps fitted for nothing, and a small discount off my winter wheel set.

if you have a tradein - a good deal on the new car may be offset by a not-so good trade appraisal - and the reverse is true. I thought i might have been able to save another $300 on the x3 but a fantastic trade appraisal made the deal worthwhile.
without a trade its straight math on what you buy.

Note that there's roughly $3000 difference between invoice and MSRP on a base model of the 28i and 35i, and that spread increases with options. So I am not sure how you could be $1000 under MSRP and $200 over invoice. |

That's a superb price. I thought my deal was decent, now I feel ripped off.

So the answer to your question is...any dealer who thought they were making enough off the car to make the deal. Sometimes that happens because they're not selling enough cars and need to make quotas to get more manufacturer kickbacks (end of month is good for that), sometimes it's because they're selling so many cars they can afford to take a lowball deal from a hard-ass and just add a few hundred to the bottom line. It can also vary by region or even dealership, so you need to shop around. That's why I asked Flashy what part of the country he's in. I'm considering PCD, so I can probably by from any dealership in the country since they won't be involved in delivery, and I might as well make a deal in an area where better deals are possible. I got a quote for $100 over invoice, but if I can do better I might actually buy this year rather than wait for the D. |
