Fuel Economy of 2015 BMW X4

EPA MPG ratings for the 2015 X4 are up on fueleconomy.gov:
Quote:
2015 X4: www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/2015_BMW_X4.shtml
2015 X3: www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/2015_BMW_X3.shtml

Page must have only gone up today because even Google has yet to crawl the page.

Dangit, should've gone with the 35i. Only one mile difference between the two.

it's never too late to backout and rebuild another one.

like my quote before in your other post, for $3k different in a $60k car, you went for a v4, which I never understood.

el_do33, that was kinda tongue-in-cheek; wasn't really being serious. N20 should be ample for me. Friday will be the day of reckoning, we'll see. Everybody that recommends the N55, usually does so for the engine sound.

well.. i hope you will enjoy the V4 for years to come. I could never justified that much $$$ for a 4 cylinder SAV especially with minimal cost diff for a better upgrade.

Looking at the economy figures from a different angle, why are the figures identical for the X3 and X4?, I can't imagine that with such differing aerodynamic profiles that they will ever be the same. Leaving out the fact that cars never match the official calculated rating I suppose the best we can hope for is that the X4 will be closer than the X3 is. Fortunately for me I don't need to replace my car until next year, so there is plenty of time for the true figures to become available and in the end, for me, the decision between the X3 & X4 will come down to auto box in an X3 or a stick shift X4.

Total drag is very similar X3/X4 and due to low speed, has limited influence on mileage. Unless, of course, you are commuting on low traffic M1- which is unlikely.

Due to "always" right gearing with 8-speed auto, BMW claims better fuel economy with auto.

I would concentrate on engine sound

Talking

I never doubted the N20's ability to get me from A to B. The cabin is very quiet and you cannot hear the engine inside, so "engine noise" is irrelevant. I'm also almost always playing music in the car. I drive in New Jersey (and not on wide open roads somewhere in the hillside in Spain like this), so I have no need for fast acceleration or racing. More than 90% of my driving will be in ECO PRO mode.

This happened to me last year on another forums, in a different context. I was discussing a pair of high-end floorstanding speakers and subwoofer, and everyone on the forums was pushing a more expensive, higher spec config (bigger speakers and more powerful sub). Came home, setup the speakers and I was blown away at how amply powerful (more than adequate) they were.

This is the exact same thing here. The N20 is a perfectly capable engine and $3,000 for the N55 is a completely unnecessary upgrade, at least for me, personally. Not only do I get a ~1 MPG saving, but I'm also not throwing away $3,000.

Yocal: Obviously you did the right choice for you - I, however, will gladly pay the extra SEK 25.000 for my 35i. I don`t listen to music, but guess what?

To more important matters: what about steering feel/precision? I am very sensitive to that and have ordered active dampers and 20" to get best possible.

Yup to each of his own -- the unnecessary upgrade (throw away $$$) that I see on your was the LED which cost almost close to the engine upgrade. Xenon is already standard on these.

This is interesting. You bought an X4, not an X3, and are justifying the I4 based on utility/practicality.

...but this has to be (when contrasted against the X3 and 4GC) one of the least practical/utilitarian cars in the BMW lineup.

IMHO- the I6 is the FIRST box you should check if you're getting a "sports activity coupe".

I'd wager that you'll do just that in <12 months (if you own the X4 that long).

cSurf: I understand Yocal:
-he is, probably, mostly in bumper to bumper traffic
-he listens to music - not engine sound
-N20 is a very capable Engine - it just is not THE Engine.
-he think, like me - that X3 is a box - and X4 a "beauty". Especially with the 310 rims.

I predict that he will keep it for three years- and enjoy his bankaccount.

Although I agree that the price for the LED headlights is outragous. The hot item today is laser light- but Xenon is good enough for me.
