H&R Springs on M-Sport

I installed H&R Springs today. I bought them used from another member on the forum. My X3 has the M Sport, Dynamic Handling Package and Dynamic Damper Control.

The first pic is OEM after the tint job (35% 3M). The second is a shot of the front suspension, followed by a shot of the rear suspension; and finally a pic of the side profile and quarter with the H&R springs installed.

When I took measurements before leaving. The OEM suspension measured approx 17.5" from wheel well to the center of the BMW roundel on all four corners. After driving home from the install, I measured again and the new distance was 15.75" all around. Since these were purchased used, I'd imagine they're not going to settle any lower than this. I did not notice any difference in ride quality. I did feel lower looking over the hood.

Looks awesome with the springs. I'll be getting some as well. Hate the stock 4x4 look, lol...

Please get some spacers. That those wheels have no concavity gives me the sense that the fenders are swallowing them whole. Looks disjointed, like the car is uncomfortable sitting on its own four wheels.

I'm with you. This will be my winter setup. In the summer I'm going to put the wheels I currently have on my M3 on the X3 with another set of summer tires. Then I'll get some VMR VB3 in Vader black for the M.

Not the OEM wheels. I have a set of M5 reps I bought from **********s. They have the hub diameter of the X3 and are on the M3 with hub rings.

Today I took my wheels/tires off of my M3 and swapped out just the driver's side wheels and tires just to see how the wheels will fit/look. The wheels are 19" with a 15 ET front and 20 ET rear. The tires are Michelin Super Sports in 245/35/19 Front and 275/30/19 rear. It looks ridiculous because the tires are so short (35 front and 30 rear). I'm planning on pairing these wheels with Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 in 245/45/19 and 275/40/19 when I actually do the permanent swap. I am concerned with how far the rear wheel sticks out.

Very cool, how'd I miss this tread. Any long term concerns with the lowered x3?

No issues so far. I really like the look. Still not convinced that the second sets of wheels that are pictured above are going to work.

K, thanks.

Do you think the stock 19" wheels look ok with the drop?

I like the idea of lower center of gravity with better cornering but I'm not interested in replacing rims and tires.

Also, I don't know if the springs can be installed with the factory dynamic dampers??

How much does it cost to get the springs installed?

I have all the suspension options on my X3 and there were no issues. I think I paid $250 for the install. I'm still running the OEM M-Sport wheel setup on mine with the OEM tires. It could probably use some spacers, but overall not bad.

Thanks!
Looks Great, btw, aside from the tires and rims you just only installed the springs right?

Yeah, just the springs. I just test fit the other set of wheels. I think the offset was a tad too aggressive. I don't want to roll around with my wheels out further than my fenders.

Looks great. I love th M-Wheels on the X3 but agree the rear off set may be slightly to much. Thanks for all the effort to show pics with both wheels and all the details regarding lowering your X3. Great job!

Nice X! 19's look as inadequate on the X3 as 20's do on the X5. The X3 needs 20's and the X5 needs 22's.

Looks good. I went with the Eibach kit on my ride for a 30mm reduction front and rear. Also waiting for them to settle a little bit.
