Picked up a '14 35i M Sport

My first BMW. I've got many cars and am a member of many forums and am glad to be here! 29,000 miles. Really happy with it. It still has the blue protective film on the rocker panel kick plates. Ha. Shipped it here from a nice retired gentleman in Florida. It was his neighbors and he bought it from their estate to sell. These pics are from his house. SGT Transport did a nice job for me if anybody is needing to ship.

I'm not a run flat fan and these could be replaced soon. What do people like? Michelins have been my go-to the last few years. I've got a Z06 with no run flats and no spare so it doesn't bother me. A cell phone and a flat bed work for me.

Have a good week!

Nice Ride

I have a 2014 X3 M-Sport in the same color. Mine has black leather interior and wood grain trim though. I've owned it since about 30k miles and absolutely love it. I was coming from a 335i coupe and the X3 satisfied my need for sporty driving while having more passenger and trunk space. I'll definitely be staying with the X3 family for awhile and be leveling up to the G01 in the next year or two.

I was the same as you and didn't like the run flats. They were stiff and definitely provided a more bumpy ride. I switched over to all season Michelin Pilot Sports and it made a world of difference. I would definitely make that change if I was in your shoes.

Tires: ran Michelin AS/3+ in my E39 sedans, nice tire- good blend between performance/comfy ride.

Running Yoko Avid Ascend GT's on the F25 w/std suspension - 8K on them, smooth running tires, reasonably firm but clearly not overly taught- very high tread wear rating, reasonably priced.

Nice looking ride, good find! Mixed feeling on run flats here, harsher ride but the Goodyear Eagles on my X3 35i M sport feel a lot better than the Pirellis on my 335i or the Continentals on my 328i. I've had run flats fail to do their job and I've had them get me someplace where I was either more comfortable calling for that tow truck or gave me other options.

That's a great example! Nice color. I'm not very familiar with that. Looks very classy!

nice find with low miles! You will like it better without the run-flats.

Thanks. I'll check these out on T-rack.

Agree with that. I had them on my 1st Corvette and oh boy did they get loud when the tread started getting low. Replaced with Michelins.

A move to go-flats will likely greatly improve ride quality- BMW's M-sport suspension is typically very good blend between performance and daily comfort....high-performance (summer) tires have generally fairly stiff sidewalls; they stick well but have low tread wear rating- a good all-season/touring may be better all-around choice for daily driving- unless you plan to really push the car thru the twisties 😉.

(I left the hard cornering crowd when I moved from sedan to SUV- these cars are heavy and relatively high center of gravity...not well suited vehicle for pushing near the limit in corners)

100% agree. I want a nice ride over performance. I've got a Z06 for the twisties! I've got to tell ya though, even with the run flats that are low on tread, it rides pretty nice! I was pleasantly surprised. Can't wait to see what new shoes do for it. This is going to be our long road trips vehicle replacing a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Wow. A super clean example, low mileage and an uncommon color on the X. Nice find!

Gotta ask, Mizzou fan?

I’m in a similar situation. Currently in a ‘11 335i. I’m considering the x3 35i M-Sport. I drove a 28i M-Sport, 30i and m40i. The only model I haven’t had the pleasure is the 35i M-Sport. The 40i was insane.

I’m after close the my coupes performance and fell. I know it’s a tall order considering it’s heavy and with 4 doors. 95% I drive like a law abiding citizen, 4% on-ramps and passing, and 1% I open it up.

You aren’t disappointed? Anything you miss or wish?

The x3 is so fun... it’ll always feel a bit bigger and heavier than your 335i, but with downpipes, fmic, and a tune, it’s super lively! I’ve leased a 2016 320i and owned a ‘09 X5d, and my x3 handles almost as nimbly as the 320, WAY WAY more fun to drive than the x5, and plenty of space for 95% of whatever I’d ever need to use it for.

Even stock it’s extremely fast “for an SAV”. But if you’re wanting similar characteristics to a stock 335i, you’ll need to itch a mod bug a bit.

What honestly impresses me the most is the build quality of the X3. It feels way better built, more solid, more luxurious and more features available (or I just had a really poorly optioned 3-series)... I love it!

Post pics of your X if you get one! I’m sure the M40 was a riot!

I only tested the M40i but it is an absolute blast. I say passenger when my wife floored it and a few expletives flew out of my mouth when she punched it off the line.

Pre covid19, I tested:
x3 28i m sport (no go)
X3 30i rental (no go)
X3 & x4 m40i (yes)
X3m (very much a yes)

The only one I’m missing it the x 35i m sport. Covid and lack of available options are hampering my quest right now.

I want some performance, but understand that the handling will not be as good as my coupe. I don’t do track days and am not a hooligan, But it would be nice to know I have a fair percentage of road feel like my current ride.
