ABS + 4x4 + brake lights do not turn off

Neighbor's 2006 X3 has drivability issue due to shuddering/slipping from the transfer case due to worn-out friction disks. I disabled the transfer case by disconnecting the two connectors from the module in the cargo area. After disconnecting the connectors, those three lights turned on, but the vehicle drove smoothly in RWD mode. Yesterday, I installed a used transfer case, the vehicle runs great in AWD mode. Issue is gone, no fault codes but the lights do not turn off. Is there a way to turn off the lights? Thanks.

Note: the actuator motor also has a new plastic gear.

You need to use Ista-D to clear fault codes and calibrate the actuator motor.
