Anyone's 2012 "in production" yet?
Anxiously awaiting my production tracker to say "in production" dying to know if anyone's turned on the 9/11 change of production date I've seen posted around.
I was told I was the first to place my order for a 2012 at my dealership which is a really large dealership and I hope has good dibs and allocation slots.... I'm speaking US of course. |

I was the first to place a 2012 order at my dealership. They had 3 slots available and allegedly put me into the week 40 slot.
My CA said 2012 production begins in October. |

My CA said I will most likely get it end of October or early November. I don't expect to see production start until the 2nd or 3rd week of Oct. Anxious!
Changes to the 2012 35i is there is no more convenience package. Options like comfort access have been moved to the premium package (35i only). 19" 309 wheels are the new default that comes with the Sports Activity Package on the 35i. I also think the headliner will be anthracite (black). They also mentioned the instrument cluster will now be a glossy black. Glossy black doesn't sound good to me, hope what I'm imagining is wrong. Haven't been able to find any pictures of it. I'm hoping the frequently encountered bugs on the 2011 model were tweaked and no longer exist in 2012 production. My order x3 xDrive 35i (ZAP) - Sports Activity Package (ZCW) - Cold Weather Package (ZPP) - Premium Package (ZPS) - Premium Sound Package (ZTP) - Technology Package (ZDH) - Dynamic Handling Package (A14) Exterior Color - Mineral Silver Metallic (LUCX) Interior Color - Oyster 2 tone (4CH) Trim - Fineline Wave Wood Last edited by Dukat; 09-11-2011 at 11:46 PM.. |

I placed my 2012 X3 35i a few weeks ago and still see no change in status yet. My dealer never really told me what build week I had. He just called me as soon as they had allocations and I placed the order. I got the first order for 2012 from that dealership so I assumed it would be fairly soon....I hope

Do you guys have your production number or VIN yet? I placed my order the end of August but my dealer said I would get the numbers until after the 2011's were done.

The production number should be available within a few days of placing your order. Your CA should have emailed it to you. He emailed me mine 3 days after my order which was 1 month ago.

Thanks, I'll check with him. I have a print out of my order from the system with all the details but the production number field was blank.

HomerSimpson - which MD dealership did you go to? I ended up at Northwest (ordered a month ago, taking delivery hopefully tomorrow - car was done about week earlier than I expected).

greg2step...
I checked all three in the Baltimore area, Northwest, Russel and Towson. I went to Northwest a few months back and was ignored and treated quite rudely. It was not a good experience, their stock was small and their showroom/service area unimpressive. I don't know who they cater to but it was their loss for sure. As it turns out, 30 year olds, when doctors, CAN afford a BMW. Dicks. Russel gave a buying experience I documented in another forum that was haneous, uncomfortable and I'm pretty sure resulted in the [internet] sales person assigned to me getting fired. I asked to do the deal with a manager and was passed off to a pleb who had no idea what he was doing. Towson gave me the pricing I asked for to be competitive with Russel, no hassle, service area is stellar and I get to go back to my same service adviser who took care of me 2 years ago when I had my 330i competition package. I thought Towson was a no-haggle dealer for football players and trophy lawyers in Baltimore- I was wrong. |

I had much more negative experiences at the 2 local audi dealers when I was still considering the Q5 - one sales rep took off 2 weeks another fired at Len Stoler - Valley told me they had nothing to test drive first time I came by - 2nd time they found one.
back to BMW - Northwest was ok - i've heard mixed about them but in the end it came to money. I was all set to order from Towson - they came up $3500 short on my trade in - i mean not even close - that was after their sales rep did all the work helping me test drive, make decisions on packages etc... Russel didn't have any 2011 september build slots when I ordered mid Aug. And the price they quoted on the X3 was $1000 too high. Silver Spring would have matched Northwest, but Northwest is 35miles closer to my house, so its where i ended up. I live halfway between Northwest and Towson. I agree Towson is more professional than Northwest, but not enough to justify $3500 less on my trade. my 328xi i traded in came from russel - did all my service there, doubt i'm going back - if I see another camry loaner car i will not be happy. If I want to drive a camry i'll call my 79year old uncle and borrow his lol.

Nope, no change.
My car is still showing up with the original color. I had it changed 3 weeks ago. My CA confirmed twice their system shows the color as changed. I don't think the tracking site will update with my selection changes until production begins. Still waiting to hear back on why 2012 DHP no longer lists dynamic dampening as being part of the package. I hope it's a website mistake.

The color is now shown as the correct one (my wife changed it from Vermillion Red to Mineral Silver after the original order was placed); and the options that we ordered are now listed - all but one that is. We ordered heated seats, which doesn't show up in the list. The SA says these option lists are never right on the BMW tracking website; and that all will be OK. We'll soon find out I guess. |
