Question Sport Activity Package Functionality 35i

Does sport tranny equal paddle shifters? If one skips the SAP, are the manual shifts off the console lever exactly the same? Many posters seem to have late model sedans and coupes so there is probably a wealth of experience here with the paddle shifters vs console.

Automated manuals (dual clutch) now seem to outperform even pros rowing through the gears the old fashioned way. I have read that the torque converters in the newer 8 speeds approach dual clutch. Will the 35i in sports mode perform as well or better than our eager hands at the paddle and lever?
