Just to be clear that is a dragster, sounds like a big block chevy engine lol...

But here is a true life example of the HP potential...And I actually learned about cutooffs at a Performance shop I worked at, building very fast imposts back in 2003...We built a supra and put a 4" cut out on it...

Heres a video I found on youtube...55WHP open VS closed all at the top of the power band and just as a note stock Supra exhaust is already pretty un-restrictive and this one seems to have performance exhaust already, so imagine the gains on a restrictive stock system...Pushing almost 2x's the air in....

Not to mention, a good open downpipe will reduce turbo temperature quite a bit, according to the EGT gauge on my Evo, so I think its safe to say you could brings the efficiency range of any turbo up 1 -2psi maybe more...I mean open vs closed reduced temps at least 100-200* F and it took much longer for it to really heat up...

Sorry for the long delay in responding. Appreciate all the post, but there's a legitimate update. I got hit in the back, spun out of control, and the car was considered a total loss about 6 weeks ago. So bitter I'm sitting on the insurance and BMW to get there stuff together.

I'm ordering a 2021 with the same configuration. Based on what I'm seeing, I might just do a nice set of downpipes.

As got other mods/visual changes I think I'll do the chats and break calipers in a yellow against the blue metallic should look nice. Another option because it's my favorite color scheme is the Miami vice pink, but then I'd have to wrap the car in he matching blue, which imo won't look nicer on this car in NYC.😅

Also changing the rims and tires for both summer and winter. The sport contact tires are trash imo, they were sinning when entering the highway at non violent speeds even at 500-1000 miles of use. They were also terrible with the slightest amount of water and also on streets that weren't "perfect". So anyone who wants to get the car know that the sport contacts are terrible for NYC.

Thanks a lot for this. You wouldn't happen to have the ER downpipes sound clip with OEM mid pipe?

But I did get a ton of hp on the evo open vs closed and literally instant 20psi...

Same with the m2 power wise ....i put the "loudvalve" boost activated valve on 3 years ago, now i see EAS is selling a kit with a electric boost solenoid, so you can shut them off...you can also use a manual boost controller so they open higher that the official 5psi also. They also seal well especially if you put a bead of liquid exhaust gasket around it closed...

I never thought to put it on a boost solenoid... And at 5 psi the valve opens even during daily driving, mine on the m2 was set for around 10psi which was perfect. If I can find some wire that goes 12v in OEM Performance exhaust valve mode, Ill hook the solenoid to that so I can use the stock exhaust button to turn in on and off...(Hoping the stock exhaust valve is on a 12v switch or ground, if its a low voltage signal that triggers a relay, Ill just have to hook up another relay to the boost solenoid....

I plan on doing this 1st thing when I pick this damn truck up...Its taking forever...

Supposedly there is not a ton of power to gain with primary cat delete, but I'm guessing its bc the secondary cats, resonator and muffler...Its hard for me to believe a 3 liter pushing 25PSI cant gain a lot of power from open downpipes, I mean once spooling at high RPMS turbos are very little exhaust restriction, especially with twin turbo...

Ill let you know how it works out...

Heres a pic on the M2 where I welded the 3" y pipe in...before I had the valve welded on (which I shouldve done first, duh:doh:

Wow this is great info. This is above my lane of knowledge. I will have to do more learning, but you did explain it well enough in your post that I can look up the into in more detail. Appreciate the shot of the under body.

Any update on the sound or install? Are you near NYC but any chance? I'm trying to get info on what people are getting install pricing for. I contacted this one place and they have me what I think is a crazy quote for install and order.

Sadly, not. However, my friend has now installed the high flow ER downpipe on his X3MC with stock midpipes/exhaust and it sounds great!

Good to know. I know of one or two other people with just downpipes and they said it sounds great. This is good to know. I'm going to be ordering my second x3m comp in 6 months🤦*. This time I'll do the downpipes and maybe paint the vbars and breaks(like keeping it like a "sleeper")

Do you have to know if they are catless or catted downpipes? Also did you sell yours?

If you live in NY you'll have to remove them for inspection.

I used to work at a local shop, i've been cat-less on just about single car since 2002... I used to even have my inspectors license back when you had to run the car on an inspection dyno to test brakes, and the engine under load...

We could block the DOT camera system and put the exhaust sniffer in another tailpipe, lol...Those were the days...

Since having to plug into the OBD port, really made it tougher, but if ur in with the owner of a shop it's not tough at all to get a sticker...

Even If I didn't know someone, boost activated dumps after cat-less down pipes wouldn't fail me, there is no camera under the car. I'm not sure about the laws today on modified exhausts that still run all factory or street legal emissions equipment, but technically if i had catted down pipes, and the dumps downstream I'd have no CEL and no obvious reason to fail me...

You're O2 sensor will never read as in ready state with your DP's on and tuned to delete error code. Your first inspection after first year of ownership you will pass since it's only visual, after that they connect to OBII. Yet to find anyone who will/can issue a sticker without your O2 sensor being in ready state.

What does an exhaust dump down stream of the primary cats or a mid-pipe post both 02's have anything to do with failing inspection for primary cats? even if it was before the 02 sensors or in-between, with the DME reset and a drive cycle done with valves closed, it would pass...

You have to know someone that's willing to take a decent risk giving u a sticker, old bosses, good friends shouldn't give you trouble. And your worst case, is you take 30-40 mins and throw the stock cats in.

Thermal coating, good to have if you are in hot climate or full time racing, but for daily car is not needed.
Would you consider NYC a hot area? In the summer it gets pretty hot and humid af.
