No. Any modification to emissions equipment will cause you to fail, cats, 02 sensors, resonators, EGR valve, boost controllers, judst about anything that effects performance or noise...

ANY non oem part that changes emissions and/ or noise...That even includes mufflers...However OEM "style" replacement cat (same number of cells, or an aftermarket axle back that is an OEM style replacement can pass visual...

This is the case in NY and most states...

I don't know the laws in every state but I know they are mostly similar...

California is more strict obviously, Every replacement part must be SMOG and CARB compliant...And during traffic stops police can and do conduct visual inspection of exhaust, any recognizable change results in a seizure or expensive summons...Inspection stops and police also use decibal readers to determine volume...And shops that get caught passing cars suffer rough consequences...

NY, while the DOT does have a camera recording the tech doing the inspection (or did when I was doing them), they cant see under the car, and unless you have super dark tint, they cant tell bc it at least used to black and white and low quality video. (We also used to put a box in front of the camera and put the exhaust sniffer in a passable car while the other car was on the dyno, then some one would rev the other car while I would accelerate, deccelerate and brake based on the bands on the inspection machine, lol...

Last important thing to know for NY...If you are stopped in NY and issued a traffic ticket for anything that would fail you, exhaust, missing/dirty/un readable/ covered license plates, even suspension modification, racing seats with modified restraints (ie 5 point harnesses), modified liights, obstructed view, ect its an "equipment violation"

You have 24 hours to go to the police department that issued the ticket and show them you fixed the issue, by A. Bringing a repair order from a licensed shop, or B. an officer will come out and look at the car..Or C. affidavit from repsair shop showing you attempted to fix the problem but need more than 24 hrs to repair it, because you're waiting on parts or something...

I used to keep a bunch or R.O's from the shop to help...Hope this helps...

Just that all sensors are reading correctly and in proper range...Most sensors are 0-5 volts, O2s in non turbo cars are only 0-1 mv (MILLIVOLTS) and 0-2 mv and fluctuate constantly to keep LAMBDA as close to stoich(14.7 to 1 with no load) at 14.7 air to fuel, a "a narrow band will jump between .3 to .9 mv...to test, the easiest way is a visual chart from a occiloscope like snapon modus or even a smartphone with an 0bd2 dongle and good app a like Torque....

A wideband 02, will not fluctuate voltage, voltage will usualy remain the same and the sensor will vary in MA (milliamps) giving precise readings.

After the car is warmed up and completes a drive cycle, the car is "closed loop" operation, meaning it's relying on input from all required sensors...For example until the engines warmed up the car doesn't even rely on the 02s to determine STFT OR LTFT short and long term fuel trims.

It pretty much runs on a simple table of RPM, TPS (Throtle position), and MAP or MAF to determine fuel input...Once the 02s are warmed up and Coloant, oil are at operation temp, the circuits close and the engine goes into a closed loop feedback...

This is one reason for high RPM on a cold start, its to warm the car faster, also y the cars have heated 02s these days.

Also stoich or perfect AFR when using alcohol based fuel is MUCH different. Like I said Gasoline regardless of octane will be 14.7 at idle....ethanol because it has an oxygen molecule at 14.7 will be reading incredibly rich...full e85 AFR to be at stoich would be in the 9 to 1 area...

wideband o2s also can switch between posititve and negative, anything under 0 indicating lean and over a 0 being rich.

What is the current cheapest catted downpipe option? Looking for a tame setup as I have some ear issues. Or alternatively is there a midpipe setup people are running?

For those that have downpipes have you run a decibel meter inside the car to see how loud it gets?

Save your money and just get Catless Primary, leave everything else stock!
FSociety and some others have this and it's very sophisticated and only goes loud when your foot and sport+ decides to and not obnoxious loud. Touching the secondary or resonator increases the sound and will hurt your ears. If you want the best bang and just right balance that is.

I would leave the downpipes stock and put catless resonated midpipes (sec. cat delete).

May go for those supersprints. "Requires Supersprint Center Connecting Pipe for Installation"... this isnt included?

The question of the day:

SSR
or
Evolution Racewerks
?
Both make a catless dp for the f97/f98, same dp.
Which would you prefer to buy?

Up to you, ER design looks cleaner, like these below too.

I have and like these https://www.bm3tuning.com/bmw-f9x/s58-catless-downpipes

There's also other options like https://hcperformance.us/product/tne...8-x4m-exhaust/

https://hcperformance.us/product/x3m...ess-downpipes/

I guess this one? It does become a bit expensive, but Supersprint is top quality.

My buddy Acce98 originally bought that Hpipe to delete his secondary cats (with opf) and factory resonator with everything else stock. I heard it. Raspy as all get out. He then swapped it for the SS resonator version midpipes. The difference was night and day. Avoid the Hpipes.

I have projectgama dp. With ceramic coat. Fitment ok, not perfect but ok. One spot i feel that o2 is pretty close to turbo housing. Dp are fine, no issues. But the sound is so raspy and im sure it has nothing to do with DP. I just dont like it for daily driving. When you in WOT its great whet it shifts at red line but when you daily it, i hate it. Thinking of going back to stock

What do you guys think of the DPs on Ebay? They're HALF the price of everything else and a dp is a dp right? Says perfect fitment and bolt on? Obviously a great possibility it wont be as precise of a fitment as SSR or Evolution Racewerks, but is saving $500 worth it?
