2011 X3 Front Windshield Replacement

I cracked my front windshield by hitting a tree branch.

I was looking at getting Safelite to replace the windshield, but I'm not sure of some if I have infrared reflecting glass? I can't find out anywhere if it is standard or not. I did see option S420 for Sun protection glazing, but I haven't been able to find it this is just tint for the sides or for the front windshield too.

Does anyone know if this is a standard BMW feature that I should use to replace or if I should get this option if it isn't standard?

Thanks any help!

Looks like there are a few options out on realoem.com, depending on the following :

For vehicles with
Climate comfort windscreen
and
Windshield with grey wedge
and
Rain sensor
and
Automatic air conditioning
and
Lane departure warning
and
Driving Assistant
and
Driving Assistant Plus
and
Active cruise control+Stop&Go function
and
Head-up display
and
Road sign detection

1) Base version
2) Heads up gets one version
3) HU and Lane departure/warning, another version

Go out there and put your VIN in - easiest way to check

Dealer has done mine 3X now. They paid for one of them after the mirror fell off shortly after the windshield was replaced. Allstate paid for the other two, although I had to pay the $1400 up front and got reimbursed.

I've not had the best luck with Safelite. I had 4 of them crack on my E36 before I insisted they use an OEM replacement. The first one cracked before the tech had finished putting the trim back on.

Thanks for the updates!

I went with Safelite and didn't use my insurance because it was ~$300 to get it done with Safelite. I figure it can happen twice more before it is the same cost as OEM. I drove through a rainstorm a few days after getting the repair and all the sensors worked perfectly.

For Reference for, the 2011 X3 does not have the infrared reflecting glass.

I'm about to have mine replaced as I just completed a road trip and got hit pretty good with a rock. Left a big chip. I had my dealer give me the list of needed parts, here they are with price and part number...

51-31-7-283-828 Windshield 678.36 678.36
51-31-7-206-137 Cover, Windshield 31.72 56.84
61-35-6-832-977 Sensor, Rain/Light 247.69 317.04
83-19-2-289-180 Windshield Adhesive 44.00 77.22 (two tubes needed)

The first price listed is the insurance pricing, and the second is retail. My dealer says that BMW lists 5 hours to do the job. So figure your labor cost there as well... Mine is $1215 plus the $1250ish in parts... I spoke to my insurance company that has a contract with Safelite and they will only pay a maximum of $680 towards the repair, so for me, the dealer is out. I just can't justify the cost to have it done for that kind of money, knowing it'll come out of my pocket...

Good luck to all of you.

I did get the dark band along the top this time and I am very happy with it. I have the rest of my windows tinted so it's not just useful but is also looks great with the car.

I'll post a pic up this week.

Also... Thanks for the great price info JupiterBMW. I'll take the $300 from safelite vs the BMW cost every day haha.

Funny you should mention that... I'm awaiting arrival of the Safelite tech right now... I couldn't swallow the pill either. However, I am springing the $365 uncharge for the OEM glass... Will report back after the service is complete...

Safelite replaced mine with a new OEM windshield... Incredibly well refined process they've developed, makes for a very good install. I'm very happy.

Finally a pic of the windshield. Based on the last few weeks, I'd use Safelite again.
