Never heard of that before. Maybe a glitch in the wiper handle/switch?

Another Forum Member had a "wipers continuing to run" problem (along with other issues) and it apparently turned out to be an electronics module.

See this post for "dd123"s problem and the recommendations as how to handle it with the dealership.

Wiper Problem

You just have to document every occurrence and be persistent about insisting that your dealer actually finds the fix for the problem instead of just trying to brush you off. Often the dealership does not have the expertise to find and correct complex problems and is reluctant to contact BMW NA or BMW AG and ask for help. If you feel they are not giving your issue the attention it deserves, you should let them know that you are going to phone or write BMW NA and ask them to intervene.

It's worth reposting in both of those threads so that the people who started them and all those that contributed get a notification and may be able to help you

In the "old days" things like windshield wipers, headlights and heater blowers were controlled by a switch and a fused DC circuit. If the device didn't work it was a bad switch, burned out speed resistor, blown fuse or a broken wire. If there was a problem, a good technician could trouble-shoot it in 5 minutes using a $5 test lamp.

Today we still have the fuses and wires, but the device is controlled by electronic relays that are controlled by remote bus controllers that are connected to a wide-band multiplexed bus, that's controlled by a network of programmed gate arrays, microprocessors and flash memory arrays, (running millions of lines of code) that may or may not respond to the driver-controlled switch. The technician now needs a proprietary computer tester that costs tens of thousands of $ and can take days to "possibly" diagnose the problem.

Isn't progress great?

After leaving X3 for a few days, at the dealership. They found to replace the modular on the wipers- which is backordered from Germany. The truck will still be there for another week. Just hope that solves the problem.

Is it okay to leave the car at the dealership for days/weeks? Anyone have issues with finding dings or scratches or is it generally okay?

Our X3 spent 13 or 14 days total at the dealership waiting for them to diagnose a problem and then waiting for the part to arrive. Other than the torn upholstery, broken windows and cigar burns, the car was fine.

Don't worry, but just hope they use the same color paint to touch-up all the scratches.
