We're not driving much and roof rails doesn't matter because we live in downtown Chicago and won't take it on any longer road trips any time soon. Heck we might just own the car for a year or two but who knows.

This has been a crazy ride, deals are falling through and sellers being weird is more common than not. I'm not even haggling so not sure why.. Oh well, I need your help for hopefully the last time! I'm choosing between two, both with the six cylinder N/A N52 engine.

Which one would you choose?

1. 2011 xDrive28i - 64500 miles - Private seller - Total cost $13,300

Pros: Low miles, good price, looks to be in great shape.
Cons: Very basic equipment (not a huge deal though), imported from Canada last year, has been in two 'moderate' front collisions, since imported the owner selling it is the third one in just a year, service records from Canada does not show up on the Carfax.

2. 2012 xDrive28i - 89500 miles - Dealership - Total cost $14,500

Pros: Looks really clean, love the combination of color and all the equipment.
Cons: Expensive for the mileage but they are not budging on price at all, no service records between 53k to 89k but they swear the previous owner took it to an indy shop, has been in a light accident on the right side.

I can't comment on price since I have not price shopped but the second car is the far better car. I don't know if it has been raised in this thread or not, but the one thing that causes buyer's remorse more than anything on these cars is getting the regular halogen headlights, like the first car has. Plus everybody likes the sport seats much better. I'd take the second car all day long. I gather you want to buy local? I decided long ago that when it comes to used cars the whole country is my used car lot, and I always go in person and drive them home. That's half the fun. The cars currently in the family came from Colorado, Utah, New Jersey and Washington State.

Both cars actually have xenon lights! But I do like the second car a lot better, it is pretty much the exact same spec that I would've chosen if I bought it new.

I've looked up to 500 miles away from me but these are the best I can find for the money. I've done a few searches around the country but my wife is 8 months pregnant and I don't want to travel too far or get on a flight (unless I really have to)

I think my biggest question is if the white car is worth the money considering mileage and lack of service records.

• I stay away from vehicles from the north in snow belts due to corrosion from salt.
• It may be the pic for vehicle #2, but the driver side fender looks like a different paint hue then the rest of the car? Accident?
• Unless you wrench on your own vehicles, the lower the mileage the better since maintenance/repairs can get expensive if taking it to a competent shop.

While I agree with you to a certain extent (very low mileage can be just as bad as high) it is impossible to find anything within budget if I were to follow them. There's a compromise.

I made a spelling mistake. The left side was in a minor accident and not right side. It seems like the door(s) have been repainted. Thanks for pointing that out.

Sounds like you have your mind set on what you feel is the best vehicle for you. Just take into account the extra service/repairs that may be needed on a higher mileage vehicle, which can well exceed the cost of spending the extra for a lower mileage well maintained one. Not to mention breaking down in the dead of winter with a newborn onboard

I hear what you're saying and as with any 8-9-10 year old car you have to account for repairs of course, that's regardless of mileage.

I wish there were better cars out there but I can't justify spending an additional $5000 for 30k less miles when the model year is the same.

I agree with these statements; I'd be pretty hard pressed to buy a car that has been in an accident unless I could see the details on the damage/repair work performed.

Whatever X3 you get serious about, pay an independent shop to perform a pre-purchase inspection- that is 150 bucks well spent on any used Bimmer purchase.

Ive been driving these cars for 15+ years, every Bimmer I bought was used (and sourced from private seller/original owner).....PATIENCE is a real key when buying used, being willing to wait for the 'right car to show up pays dividends. I've purchased cars with 80K+ miles, but each one had full service history and was inspected- it's doable, just need to know what you're getting into.
