Dealer Gifts

I ordered a 2012 X3 and was wondering what sort of gifts the dealer usually gives at delivery? I have heard everything from luggage to key chains. Honestly these BMW trinkets are of the least concern to me, but just curious how cheap my dealer will be.

Did you demand them or were they civil by offering first?

If these "trinkets" are of no concern, then why bother wasting energy worrying about them?

I would imagine that their cheapness with gifts will be proportional to your cheapness with regard to paying msrp.

I asked for them sometime after purchasing the car between the 1.5-2 month wait for it to arrive so I'm sure it's not too late for you to ask.

I got the all weather rubber floor mats (cheaper ones) as I didn't know there are two kinds, the all weather floor liners (more expensive ones) are more form fitting, covers the transmission tunnel in the rear and perhaps have deeper wells.

Try and ask for the floor liners as they are better but either way I'm sure if you ask nicely your CA will be more than happy to give them for free.

After negotiations I asked for the following:

1) BMW hat (just a tradition that I get a hat for each vehicle I purchase)
2) BMW winter mats
3) BMW cargo liner
4) 2X BMW jackets

I got about 5% off MSRP + above which is about $800 value.

Mind you I'm in Canada so not sure what the dealers in US will do.

Fair question. I guess I just want to know if my dealer is firmly in the minority of skimping on even the most trivial items. Although it may be a trinket, I will take everything the dealer should be handing out; I'm sure they have gotten their fair profit out of me.

Floor mats however are definitely not trinkets in my opinion, so that's really helpful to know many provide them free of charge.

My Sales Guy sent me a package the week after I took delivery. It included: Irvine BMW tote bag. BMW travel mug. BMW cap. BMW first aid kit.

I never asked, he just sent them. But this is the 2nd car I bought from him.

Mats are now included in all 2012 cars - so there you go, wish granted.

lol, I wonder if there is any correlation with how much you overpay and how many gifts you receive?

Got the same as above + 2 Irvine BMW keychains. One package for each car at delivery.

Sorry about the multiple posts, my iPhone app is acting strange.

But I only paid $300 over invoice.

Nothing for me, but I did get a healthy discount on the X3 itself which is where I'd rather get the saving.
