X3 Help - Any mechanic on the forum

Hi Fellow BMW Enthusiasts,
I have a 2004 X3 which does not even start now. The dealer replaced the coolant expansion tank and from their service remarks seems like the heat gasket is blown and there is some fluid/oil mixing with the coolant. They found brown liquid in the coolant tank I think. At this point, they suspect that we may have to change the engine. Is there any mechanic in the Fremont, California area who can diagnose this for me and let me know how much it would cost to do the engine replacement? I do not want to do this service at the dealer as I do not trust them. If there is any mechanic in the forum who can help me, that would be great.
Thanks.
