First Service 2011 X3

I was surprised to see an indication on the dash that my first service would be at 15K miles or Oct 2012. I was under the impression that service came due at 10K miles. We are currently at 9970 and really enjoying every time we venture out in this jewel.
Is the 15k and/or 1 year correct for my car? sam

15k or 1 year seems to be typical for the oil change indicator. Nothing to worry about there. Some folks choose to supplement the dealer provided oil changes between the 15k dealer paid for changes. That's up to you.

You can see exactly what is coming due for service via iDrive vehicle info screen.

Mine ended up being at 14,000. The car calculates that for you based on conditions and actual driving.

If I was keeping the car for the long-run, I'd be changing the oil about every 5k

Lease vehicle? Whatever they'll cover with the maintenance plan.

If you don't hit 15k within a years time, BMW will still change your oil for free one time yearly. Just had mine done in July for free with 7,000 miles on it.

We'll have had our 2011 X3 35i for one year on 3Sept. iDrive says oil change is due in 800 miles at 13.8K. We changed the oil the first time on our dime at 8K because the level indicated 1/2 down from max. It goes in next week.
Is there a BMW 15K service/inspection menu in addition to oil change?

I don't know if this is unusual, but when I took delivery of my car on December 22, 2011 my service indicator showed that I needed to have my car serviced at 15K miles or November 2013! Yes, that is not a typo, 2013! Anyway, I had the oil changed December 18, 2012 when the mileage was at ~10.6K. The service indicator now shows that I need to have it serviced at 3K from now or still in November of 2013.

Is there something wrong here?

I don't know (and a little OT) but my MB inidcates all kinds of strange service schedules. I go by the maintenance booklet because it lists the services required by mileage and time. Not sure if BMW lists these services or not (but I hope they do).

I just had my inspection done on my 2012 x3 owned the car for about one year so the dealer did a low mileage oil change. My car still states that service is due in about 5000 miles. From my understanding from my SA is that some things will still need to be serviced at that time under the required maintenance not sure what and don't really care if it's on BMW's dime.

Did you have the software update for throttle response? Mine jumped up a year after this was done. My dealer told me they couldn't set it back but not to worry, they would still do it in 2012.

I hope you are kidding. Unless you only drive short distances in extreme conditions, oil changes every 5k make no sense at all. Even worse, you create an environmental problem...

Yes, I did have a software update for the throttle response issue.

I will just wait for the service indicator.

Thanks.

My indicator tells me service is due at 16K miles - having it done next week at 10K.

I did a change at 3k on my own dime as part of the break-in. My dealer also did a free low mileage change within the first 12 months--I think that's pretty standard.
