Has Anyone drove with the 19" alloys in Snow and what were they like?
Hi everyone,
I'm picking up a AW M-Sport in July with 19" alloys was thinking of buying a set of 17" tyres (probably all season or winter) as with the smaller diameter they should be a bit more grippy come the Winter. Just wondering how sloppy the 19"s were in the Snow with their big wide wheels. Thanks |

I remember an E92 on 19" wheels in front of me on some slushy snow, he could hardly move, so when I got a chance (on my 17" winter tyres), just accelerated away as normal, and showed him what proper tyres can do even on a RWD BMW. I still wonder if he knew why my car was not affected by slush.
Tyres make all the diffference, if you are having 19" summers tyres and what to be mobile if we have snow and ice, I'd have a dedicated winter set of wheels, with proper cold weather tyres fitted. HighlandPete |

I had on my 19" all seasons this winter in Michigan and they were great. No problems at all.

I used the 19s with the all season standards and they worked great this winter. I live is Wisconsin. Winter tires would have worked better, but I had no problem with all seasons in snow.

I can understand the compromise (which it is) of all-season, on a dedicated wheel set. But if buying a second wheel set, then the winter tire has to be the sensible option on the second wheel set.

Hello I have the 19 inch all-season M-Sport stock tires and wheels on my X3 through the winter here in Northern Colorado and it did awesome. I do agree with the other post here if you want a dedicated winter set I would probably go with 17 or 18's and snow tires. Again, my stock 19s worked well all last winter. Good luck!

I agree it's defintely worth buying a dedicated set of winter tires. I had 265.50x20" snows on my FX for the last 9 years and surprisingly it handled the deepest snow with ease. Now that was a really wide snow tire. I did see when climbing the mountains with a foot of fresh snow it wanted to snowplow so probably a thinner, smaller tire would have been better but I wanted to maintain the look of the wheel year round. I'm going to get a 19" dedicated winter setup for my X3 this year. Just need to find a good wheel.
