AC Warm on drivers side

Hello everyone.

I have a 2015 X3, Xdrive351.

The drivers side ac blows warm. The ac blows cool, not cold, on the passenger side.

Since its affecting both sides I figured it must be a coolant issue. So I bought some r134a and charged it and the passenger side seems to blow colder.

The driver side is still warm. When I close the vents on the passenger side, the drive side does cool down some, but isnt cold.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this? Thanks!

Garage List
  • Connect real gauges, report ambient temp, humidity, high & low gauge readings.
  • Check heater hose temps for driver and passenger sides.
  • Make sure center vent thumb wheel is on the blue, not red.

Agreed. A common symptom of low refrigerant charge is what you have observed, one side blows warm.
System needs to be properly checked, typically servicing often requires system evac and fill with proper Freon charge. An a/c shop can do this, it's not an expensive job.

Only because you didn't mention it I must ask...is the warm air coming from the dash vents only? If so, where is the center dash vent's stratified air dial set? Is it in the red..or is it in the blue...or is it centered/neutral?

If it's in the red....then only warmed air will blow from the dash vents. The stratified air dials have thrown many owners off...due to not understanding how they work. They allow you to temper the air from the dash vents warmer/cooler...while maintaining the set temp on the IHKA control panel.
