Drivers side mirror replacement

Drivers side mirror got hit (found it hanging one morning). It needs to be replaced. Dealer quoted $1200 + 3 hours ($1700). Replacement mirror assy from getBMWparts is about $500, so I am looking to do this myself. It appears to just be three bolts, once the door panel is removed....

Has anyone done, this or got any pointers, especially on how to remove the door panel?

Thanks, Paul

I think you also have to replace the seal between the mirror and the door as well when you replace the mirror. Check out the 3 series forums, there are people who swapped out their mirror for the M3 mirrors

Ouch, $1700 for a mirror. Good luck to you! Let us know what you decide to do.

Replaced the mirror and assembly today. Parts were actually $700, turns out the mirror didn't come with the assembly, so another $200 for the mirror. The whole process took me about an hour, included how to swap the camera from the old mirror to the new one.

51167264121 & 51162991665 where the parts for my car - Various options for with/out camera/chrome/autodim

Removing the door panel wasn't too hard either, excellent set of instructions here

Then it was three bolts to remove the mirror assembly, swap over the camera and back on the car.

Saved myself about $1000 and very satisfied with doing it myself!

Believe I need to do same, is the part # somewhere on the original one that got smashed on the drivers side as trying to confirm that before I shell out $560 for the part?

I have 2013 F23 no turn signals on mirror, no chrome (M sport sport package, Space Grey) but do have top view camera and dip on reverse so believe 51167264121 is the one I need.

Although I see wire between the mirror upper and lower bodies. The 4121 pictures seem to have a connector behind inside cover. Other videos said you have to remove door panel to access mirror connector. I guess I should just pry off my cover and see what in behind it.
